Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Shark?

Wynne stepped out of the elevator first, hands clasped loosely behind her back, leaving Jerome in her wake as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

“M…Mr. Cromwell-

Brian choked on his own words.

Did she just flirt with him?

She absolutely did. Right?

Jerome’s cold gaze flicked toward him. Brian felt it like a blade to the spine and snapped his mouth shut instantly.

Outside the VIP ward, the air was thick with dread.

“Mr. Marcus… I’m sorry. We did everything we could.” The doctor removed her mask, exhaustion etched into every line of her face. “She was brought in too late. There’s already severe brain damage. After consulting with the expert panel… if she doesn’t regain consciousness tonight, we’ll have to declare brain death.”

Her voice dropped on the last two words.

The corridor fell silent.

The doctor-Georgia Farley, a friend of the family, one of the youngest of the country’s top surgeons- rarely looked shaken.

Now she did.

Marcus Cromwell’s cane slipped from his hand with a sharp crack against the floor. He staggered, vision swimming.

Around him, cries broke out. But in a family like this, it’s hard to tell if the sadness is genuine or just for show.

“Every disaster in this family traces back to that cursed child-Dylan!”

Susan Cromwell dabbed delicately at her eyes with a handkerchief that reeked faintly of onion. Her gaze slid toward her brother, Juan Cromwell, standing beside Marcus.

Back when their mother showed up at the Cromwell house with her and Juan to confront their dad after that incident, if it hadn’t been for Rosalie’s iron grip, their father would’ve given them a proper name a long time ago.

But now? The chance had finally come!

“Father, you have to cast him out! If you don’t, he’ll drag the entire Cromwell family into ruin!”

“Oh?”

A voice floated in from behind.

Flat. Quiet.

The corridor froze solid.

From the far end, a wheelchair rolled forward out of the shadows.

Jerome.

The moment they saw him, the Cromwells looked as if they’d seen death itself.

“Jerome-”

Marcus lurched forward, but a single glance from Jerome pinned him in place. No one spoke again.

The wheelchair stopped directly in front of Susan.

“Say that again.” Jerome’s voice was soft, edged like broken glass. “In front of me.”

Susan’s pupils trembled violently.

Before she even realized what she was doing, her knees hit the ground.

Cold sweat streamed down her temples.

Jerome’s fingers turned the black rosary at his wrist, bead by bead.

“Anyone else,” he said lazily, gaze sweeping the room like a blade, “care to suggest removing Dylan from the family?”

Not a soul dared meet his eyes.

Everyone knew.

The day Jerome took off that rosary… was the day blood would spill.

His fingers stilled, then-

The tension in the air stretched to a breaking point.

“Ahhh! What are you doing?!”

A scream tore out from inside the VIP ward.

Jerome’s hand stopped mid-motion.

Every head snapped toward the door.

It stood open.

Inside-

“Mr. Marcus!” Georgia’s voice rang out sharply. “When I came in, she was about to stick that needle into Mrs. Rosalie’s head!”

All eyes locked onto the scene.

Wynne stood by the bed, a slender needle poised between her fingers.

Georgia had her wrist in a tight grip.

Dylan clung to the doctor’s coat, making frantic, choked sounds.

Marcus’s fury found a new target instantly.

“Who are you?!” he roared. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Alex stepped in, pushing Jerome’s wheelchair, a deep frown etched on his face.

This was crossing a line.

“Mr. Cromwell.”

Wynne spoke.

Her tone was light. Casual. Almost bored.

As if none of this chaos had anything to do with her.

“Ah-!”

Georgia cried out suddenly as Dylan lunged and bit her wrist. She recoiled, releasing Wynne instantly.

Wynne flexed her fingers once, then looked at Jerome.

“What you want is for her to wake up. Right?” she said evenly.

A beat.

“I can do that.”

The room exploded.

“Are you a doctor?” Georgia snapped, clutching her wrist.

“No.”

“Do you even have a license?”

“No.”

“Then who taught you?”

Wynne shrugged slightly. “Picked it up.”

Georgia let out a sharp, disbelieving laugh.

“Unbelievable. You really don’t know your limits.”

Picked it up?

Why not just claim you are some miracle reincarnated healer while you are at it?

“Ms. Sinclair, that’s enough!” Alex stepped forward, voice hard.

No one understood better than him what Rosalie meant to Jerome.

This wasn’t a situation for reckless games.

“I’m not joking.”

Wynne’s expression changed.

For the first time, the laziness in her eyes vanished-replaced by something sharp and certain.

The moment she saw Rosalie lying there, unmoving… the needle points, the method, the sequence-every detail had surfaced in her mind with terrifying clarity.

And she knew.

She was right.

“I can save her.”

Her gaze locked onto Jerome.

Dark. Steady. Unflinching.

“Security!” Marcus barked, fury boiling over. “Throw her out!”

But before anyone could move-

Dylan stepped forward, baring his teeth like a cornered animal, ready to bite anyone who came close.

The room tensed.

Jerome didn’t move.

But when his gaze flicked toward Marcus’s men, the air itself seemed to thicken with killing intent.

No one dared take another step.

“I’m serious, Jerome,” Wynne said, each word deliberate,

She could see it-how much that woman mattered to him. To Dylan.

She never acted unless she was certain.

Right now, she had no proof.

Only instinct.

“Enough!”

Georgia snapped, patience gone.

“You think a few needles can fix this?” she scoffed. “What’s next? You’ll tell us you can wake her up on the spot? Who do you think you are-Shark?”

The name hung in the air.

The legend.

A ghost in the medical world. A miracle doctor who pulled patients back from the brink with nothing but needles. No affiliation. No identity. A perfect success rate.

Untouchable.

Untraceable.

Unreal.

“Do you understand the consequences?” Jerome’s voice dropped, low and dangerous.

The weight of it pressed down on everyone present.

“Mr. Cromwell?” Georgia turned to him, stunned.

Even Marcus stared in disbelief.

In the corner, Juan and Susan exchanged a glance-barely concealed excitement flashing between them.

If this girl failed…

If Rosalie died….

Everything would change.

“Mr. Cromwell, you can’t-” Alex started, panic rising.

“That’s Rosalie.”

Wynne didn’t look away from Jerome.

Then-she flashed a confident smile.

She reached up, twisted her long hair into a loose bun, securing it with a small shark-shaped tie.

With practiced ease, she re-sterilized the needle.

Her movements were clean. Precise.

Too precise for a novice.

Too natural.

“Mr. Cromwell-!” Alex’s voice tightened.

Too late.

Right in front of everyone-

Wynne’s hand moved.

And the needle slid cleanly into Rosalie’s head.
