Chapter 6 She Woke Up?
“Are you crazy?”
Finished
The moment Wynne actually followed through, Georgia snapped. She lunged forward, reaching for Wynne’s wrist-too fast, too reckless, not caring in the slightest if she disturbed Rosalie mid-procedure.
She didn’t get far.
A needle stopped dead in front of her eye.
Less than an inch away.
“Take one more step,” Wynne said coolly, not even bothering to turn around, “and I’ll blind you.”
No humor. No hesitation.
It was as if she had eyes in the back of her head. The needle tracked Georgia’s slightest movement with eerie precision, locking her in place.
Cold sweat beaded along Georgia’s hairline.
She froze.
No one in the room dared breathe.
Every pair of eyes locked onto Wynne’s hands-steady, exact, merciless in their control.
Everyone except Jerome.
His gaze drifted, slow and deliberate, from the small shark-shaped clip securing Wynne’s hair… to the clean lines of her face. Between his fingers, the black rosary turned once-then stilled the instant the beads clicked together.
His expression unreadable.
“Mr. Cromwell, you’re going to regret this!” Georgia snapped, forcing her hands into her coat pockets to mask the tremor. Her chin lifted, pride clinging stubbornly to her expression. “You’re letting a lunatic gamble with a life!”
Jerome didn’t even look at her.
He let her perform alone.
“Dylan… come here.”
Wynne’s voice softened slightly, roughened from focus. She tilted her head, looking toward the small figure crouched near Jerome’s wheelchair.
Dylan’s little face was tight with fear, eyes glassy.
The moment he heard her, they lit up.

He rushed over on unsteady legs and threw his arms around her calf, clinging tight.
Wynne didn’t pause her work.
“Who on earth told your great-grandma about your kidnapping…”
Her gaze swept the room-cold, sharp, cutting through every face.

“Who’s the real cursed one-” she added quietly.
The room went still.
Her eyes lifted.
Met Jerome’s midair.
“Let Rosalie figure it out herself.”
The words had barely settled-
“Uh… hhk…”
A ragged breath tore from the hospital bed.
Everyone froze.
Rosalie’s chest rose again.
Then again.
Color crept back into her ashen face. Her eyelids fluttered-and opened.
She was awake.
For a heartbeat, no one reacted.
Then-
“No way-” Brian’s voice cracked, eyes blown wide as he whipped around to Alex.
Even Alex-the man who barely reacted to anything-looked shaken.
Georgia staggered back a step, her face draining of color.
“That’s impossible… I diagnosed her myself… she-she shouldn’t-”
But the monitors told the truth.
Her vitals were stabilizing.
Climbing.
“Rosalie!” Susan gasped, her earlier arrogance gone, replaced with naked panic. When she was about to lunged forward to the bed-

“Alex.”
Jerome didn’t even raise his voice.
Alex snapped back to himself instantly, stepping in front of the bed. One arm barred Susan, Juan, even Marcus-without hesitation.
“D-Dylan…”
Rosalie’s voice was barely a whisper, fragile as thread. But the moment she saw the little boy, her eyes reddened.
Her baby great-grandson.
Wynne stepped back, leaning lazily against the floor-to-ceiling window. The razor focus in her eyes dissolved, leaving her looking almost languid, like none of this had cost her anything.
“Grandma.”
Brian pushed Jerome closer to the bedside.
The violence that had coiled around him moments ago was gone-forced down, contained beneath iron
control.
Wynne watched him, head tilted slightly.
The contrast amused her.
A quiet laugh slipped from her lips.
Jerome paused.
Looked up.
The gauzy white curtains drifted in the soft airflow. Wynne stood in the filtered light, her outline faintly glowing. Her lips were nude, her smile light-almost careless.
So charming.
“Who told you about Dylan?” Jerome turned back to Rosalie and asked, voice low, controlled, as he took her hand.
She was still weak. Just saying Dylan’s name had drained her.
But at his question, her gaze shifted.
Toward Susan.
Then her eyes closed again, her strength spent, slipping back into sleep.
“Mm-hhk-!”
Dylan panicked instantly, his whole body trembling as he searched for Wynne.

Brian’s scalp prickled.
Here we go again-
“She’s fine.”
Wynne pushed off the window and walked over, reaching out to ruffle Dylan’s hair lightly.
“Just asleep.”
Dylan blinked, like someone had pressed pause on him. His breathing became steady.
Sniffling, he climbed carefully onto the bed, curling up beside Rosalie in a small ball.
Every few seconds, he stretched out one tiny finger… just to feel her breath.
The storm passed.
Just like that.
Brian exhaled, long and shaky.
If Wynne hadn’t been here today… this entire ward might’ve turned into a bloodbath.
And buried alongside Rosalie.
He clicked his tongue inwardly.
These Cromwell idiots ought to be kneeling in gratitude.
“You can use whatever medication you need,” Wynne was exhausted, stifling a yawn, “but don’t touch the needles for a week.”
Her tone was casual.
Like she was reminding them not to water a plant too much.
“What happens if we do?” the hospital director asked, still dazed. He had just rechecked the monitors- everything was improving. Rapidly.
A miracle.
A complete reversal of a unanimous death sentence.
Every eye turned to Wynne.
In an instant, the ease vanished from her face.
Her gaze turned cold.
Danger flickered there-sharp enough to make seasoned professionals break into a cold sweat.
“Try it,” she said finally, her voice steady and flat, breaking the tension in the room.

Jerome’s eyes shifted slightly.
Brian understood immediately.
Within minutes, security was doubled-tripled-until Rosalie’s ward was sealed tighter than a vault.
For the next week, not even a mosquito would get in.
Wynne reached up, tugging the shark clip free.
Her long hair spilled down in a dark cascade.
The ends brushed lightly across Jerome’s hand.
A faint, almost imperceptible touch.
His fingers twitched, but he said nothing.
“Mr. Cromwell,” Wynne said casually, sliding her hands into her pockets as she leaned back against the wall, “thanks for trusting me back there.”
A faint, easy smile curved her lips.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
