Chapter 64
Elara
“Oh my God-”
“Is she-”
“Holy shit, someone got that on video-*
Phones lifted like a wave. Camera flashes erupted. Madison’s phone
never stopped recording, the red dot glowing steadily in the corner.
Julian’s hand was still on my shoulder. I could feel the tension in his
fingers, the way they’d tightened instinctively when he heard the
fabric tear. He looked down at the broken clasp in my hand, then up
at my face.
I stared at Victoria, eyes wide, hand trembling. “I–I’m sorry, I was
just trying to steady myself–you were pulling me, and I lost my
balance-”
“Liar!” Victoria was shaking now, tears streaming down her face,
mascara running in black rivulets. “You planned this! You-”

“I didn’t-” My voice caught. I looked at Julian. His face was
unreadable, but his eyes… his eyes were searching mine, trying to
figure out what had just happened. “She grabbed my dress. I was
falling. I just—I reached out—”
Julian’s jaw tightened. His hand dropped from my shoulder.
Across the room, Tristan’s smirk had died completely. He stood
frozen, face pale, watching his sister’s complete meltdown. Then
panic flashed across his features and he shoved through the crowd.
“Everyone shut up!” He grabbed a tablecloth from a nearby table,
threw it around Victoria’s shoulders. “Delete those videos. Now. All of
you.”
Nobody moved. Victoria was sobbing now–ugly, gasping sobs that
shook her whole body. She clutched the tablecloth to her chest,
makeup destroyed, hair falling from its perfect updo.
Tristan’s eyes found mine. For a moment, I saw him trying to process
it–trying to figure out if this was really an accident or if I’d
somehow, impossibly, turned their trap against them.
Julian was still standing between us. Close enough that I could see his
chest rising and falling too fast. Close enough that when he spoke,
only I could hear.

“Did you mean to do that?” His voice was barely above a whisper.
I looked up at him. Held his gaze.
“She tried to destroy me,” I said quietly. “Twice. I just… steadied
myself.”
Something flickered in his eyes. Not quite belief. Not quite disbelief.
Understanding, maybe.
Or the faintest hint of… what? Admiration?
“Please,” Victoria choked out, pulling at Tristan’s arm. “Get me out of
here. Please-”
Tristan wrapped an arm around her, started guiding her toward a side door. His movements were mechanical, his face blank with shock,
Before the door closed behind them, he looked back at me one last
time.
Pure venom.
I held his gaze until the door slammed shut.

Chapter 64
The room stayed frozen. Whispers rippled through the crowd like
wind through grass.
“Did you see-”
“Was that really an accident—”
“She grabbed Elara first—”
“But still-”
“I don’t know, did you see her face? She looked way too calm.”
