Chapter 105 Collecting Snow
Leonel nodded seriously. “That’s what I was thinking too. We need to start preparing now. Mr. Marsh was so quick to share this information because he’s worried his shelter will end up buried under the snow. Do you think there’s any way to eliminate that risk?
“Beckett should have received the news by now. His base is in a valley, surrounded by mountains on three sides. He’s in the most danger. He wants to organize people to clear the snow off the mountains, but it’s just too cold. The snow has frozen solid. Without heavy machinery, it’s impossible.”
“You want me to remove the snow?” Autumn rubbed her chin. “I can do it, but no one can know I was the one who did it.”
Leonel chuckled. “Of course. You’re one of our own. Why would I ever sell out one of my own?”
“Then how are you going to explain the snow suddenly disappearing to Beckett and Mr. Marsh?” Autumn asked.
“Why would I explain it?” Leonel replied with a smile. “I don’t know anything. My people didn’t do it, so how would I know why the snow disappeared? Maybe it’s simply a natural phenomenon?
“We’re helping them out, but we aren’t asking for anything in return. We just want Karthmoor to remain stable for the time being. As long as Mr. Marsh’s shelter and Beckett’s base stay secure, our place stays secure. With them shielding us on both sides, outsiders won’t dare come into Karthmoor looking for trouble. Right?”
Leonel winked at Autumn.
Autumn gave him a thumbs-up. “Leonel, you really think fast on your feet. You’re right. Beckett’s character is solid. Protecting him means protecting ourselves. Leave this to me!”
It was extremely difficult to survive the apocalypse by fighting alone.
Humanity was as insignificant as tiny insects before nature. Fragile and easily crushed.
You couldn’t just dig a hole, hide in it, and expect to survive.
Even if you somehow made it that far, what would you do when the entire world was underwater, and every piece of land had disappeared?
It wasn’t that stage yet. Right now, people were still killing and eating one another. Nature had only begun to show its power. The hardest days were still ahead.
So if they could unite all the forces in Karthmoor into a united fortress, outsiders wouldn’t be able to come in and disrupt the peace.
Once she made up her mind, Autumn moved fast.
As soon as she got back, she started making preparations.
Although the warehouse area in her storage space was practically infinite now, she still set aside a separate section just for storing all that snow and ice.
It was everywhere right now. But once the extreme heat and sandstorms arrived, it would become a precious resource.
Since she had the space to store it, there was no reason to let it go to waste.
Even if Leonel hadn’t asked, Autumn had planned to spend the last few days of the extreme cold collecting as much snow and ice as possible for future use.
Now that Beckett’s base needed help more urgently, she’d start there.
She had David prepare a batch of bite-sized, high-calorie foods-easy to pop into her mouth to keep her energy up while working.
She also packed several extra sets of warm clothes.
The conditions outside were brutal, but fortunately, she still had her storage space.
