Chapter 109 The Next Disaster

Evander was frantic with worry.

Westfield Town wasn’t the same as it used to be.

After what happened with the Steel Claws, almost all of the town’s young men had died. All that was left were the elderly, the sick, the injured, and children. Without Zain and Silas protecting them, they were easy targets in this apocalypse.

Evander hurried to find Leonel and asked to join his team too.

But this time, Leonel turned him down.

He didn’t take in just anyone.

Evander finally snapped. “Mr. Wright, what does this mean? The girl from our town has been married into your team. If you can take in Zain and Silas, why can’t you take us too?”

Leonel’s face turned cold in an instant. “Chief Evander, do I need to remind you what happened with the Steel Claws? Did you really think we knew nothing? Or did you never bother to find out how the Steel Claws were wiped out?”

Evander instinctively took two steps back. Looking defeated, he said, “Mr. Wright… isn’t that all in the past now?”

Leonel’s voice was cold. “It may be in the past for you, but not for me. I’m not someone people can push around whenever they want. I hold grudges. Letting your people stay on the next mountain over is already more kindness than you deserve. Don’t push your luck.”

Evander stood there speechless for a long time. In the end, he could only hunch his back and leave.

From then on, the neighboring mountain became the new home of Westfield Town.

The new place was bigger, and everyone had more room to live. That should have been a good thing.

But knowing they had been left behind and cut off made everyone feel miserable.

While taking care of Willa, her mother brought it up.

“Willa, why is Mr. Wright so petty? Even if our town wronged him, haven’t we already paid for it? So many people from our town died trying to make up for what happened. Now all that’s left are elderly, women, and children. If no one is there to protect us and somebody decides to come after us, they could kill us before we even know what happened.”

“Mom, I’ve been trying to figure something out too, but what can I do?” Willa said with a troubled look. Her stomach was so big she could go into labor at any moment. “I can barely take care of myself right now. Besides, the two mountains are close enough. If something happens, they should still be able to help.”

Leonel’s group had suddenly grown by more than a hundred people, making the shelter much livelier than before.

Most of the newcomers Zain brought were his workers and their families. With so many families around, Me place finally felt like a real community.
