Chapter 11 The Ring
Autumn first went to a shopping mall and bought an emerald piece of jewelry. It wasn’t anything large- just a ring.
After tossing it into the storage space, nothing changed at all.
Good. That ruled out pure emerald as the trigger.
Phoebe’s pendant wasn’t just an emerald. It was also an antique.
Did that mean it had to be aged emerald specifically?
Autumn then went to a pawn shop to look for older items with historical value.
This time, she spent 100 thousand to buy an old-style emerald thumb ring.
She threw it back into the storage space, but it still wasn’t absorbed.
That eliminated the antique factor as well.
So what exactly was causing the storage space to upgrade again?
Just as Autumn was completely stumped, the baby store next door was holding a massive clearance sale.
It turned out that most of the young people nowadays didn’t want children. Birth rates had been dropping year after year, and baby stores were barely surviving.
Seeing that the business was no longer profitable and that even rent was becoming impossible to cover, the shop owner decided to liquidate everything and switch careers entirely.
Autumn immediately bought out the entire store’s inventory. It only cost 50 thousand total. What a steal!
After the owner left, she packed everything in the store into the storage space.
Now that the storage space had been upgraded, it could organize everything automatically. She didn’t even need to do it herself anymore.
It felt unbelievably satisfying.
If only she could figure out what triggered the upgrade again. She had no idea what the next evolution would be like.
And she had also made another surprising discovery.
Before, she could only stay inside the storage space for five minutes before being forcibly kicked out.
Now, she could stay for a full hour.
Did that mean that if she kept finding enough items to upgrade the storage space, she might eventually be able to live inside it forever?
If that were true, then even if the skyfire truly descended and the entire planet was destroyed, she and David might be able to survive inside the space until they died.
Autumn helped the shop owner lock the door and was about to leave.
Suddenly, someone ran out of the pawn shop next door, shouting as he ran, “Fire! Fire!”
Autumn wasn’t exactly the compassionate type, so she turned to leave.
But before she could, she spotted a man lying on the second-floor windowsill of the pawn shop.
It was the very same man who had saved her yesterday.
Fine. Since he had saved her once, she’d return the favor.
Autumn rushed to the pawn shop entrance and grabbed a rug from the ground. She soaked it in the water feature by the door, threw it over herself, and ran upstairs.
The fire was spreading fast.
