“No,” Autumn said coldly. “I only intended to save five of them. Survival of the fittest applies to everyone.”

“Right.” They only looked more confused.

The corner of Autumn’s mouth curved upward. “But I never said it was safe for someone who wasn’t infected.”

The moment she finished speaking, both groups froze.

The patrol members immediately understood. They chambered their weapons and aimed them at the refugees. “Nobody move!”

Autumn folded her arms. “All 20-something of you are infected, aren’t you? You were only exposed recently, so none of you are showing symptoms yet. That’s why you were willing to sacrifice most of the group to save five children.”

The refugees’ faces went pale.
