Chapter 41 The Rain Begins
Autumn lounged on a reclining chair by herself, casually swinging one leg over the other as she sipped a latte and admired the barren mountainside outside, where there wasn’t a trace of green in sight.
After absentmindedly swinging her leg a couple of times, she suddenly stopped.
Autumn immediately went next door and asked Leonel for an extra-large LED screen, then had it mounted on the wall of the dining hall where everyone ate.
She connected it to a laptop and started playing the TV series Throne of Shadows for everyone.
As it turned out, it was a huge hit.
As soon as the show started, everyone who wasn’t busy came over to watch.
The entire cave instantly became lively.
Autumn generously contributed sunflower seeds, popcorn, pine nuts, and cola, earning unanimous praise from everyone.
Their first friendly group activity was a complete success.
At midnight, a single raindrop suddenly fell.
Then countless more followed, pounding down in a deafening downpour.
Autumn, who had been playing a game, immediately went outside to check after hearing the commotion.
A solid curtain of rain had already formed outside, and water was pouring down through the cave entrance at the top of the mountain.
Fortunately, during the day, some of Leonel’s people had come over to inspect and modify the entrance. They had installed a drainage system that cleverly redirected the rainwater into a reservoir off to one side.
Once the reservoir filled up, the water could be used to irrigate flowers and vegetables.
Any excess water flowed through hidden drainage channels and emptied outside the cave.
It allowed them to monitor the weather without affecting the comfort of living inside the cave. It really was an ingenious design.
Autumn couldn’t help admiring how Leonel’s group seemed to have experts in everything.
They had people who understood construction, mechanical engineering, medicine, information technology, and all kinds of other specialties. She benefited from all of it as well. It really was impressive.
David was also awakened by the sound of the rain. He threw on a jacket and came outside. “You’re still awake this late?”
I'm not sleepy. Autumn replied. “Once this rain starts, the whole world’s going to be underwater.”
