Chapter 89 A Battle for Asher’s Attention
As soon as Zinnia was gone, Leonel burst out laughing.
“Who knew Asher was such a ladies’ man? Women are practically throwing themselves at you now.” Leonel teased.
Autumn shot him a glare and said, “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you? No wonder you’ve been/so wary of people from Westfield. They’ll go after anyone with a little status.”
Leonel laughed and replied, “They’re not stupid. They can all tell that you have as much say in our group as I do. You’re young and good-looking too, so of course they’d come after you.”
“Then why aren’t they chasing you?” Autumn shot back.
“Who says they haven’t? I just told everyone I’m not interested in women,” Leonel replied.
“So they started sending men your way instead?” Autumn asked.
Leonel said, “Just eat your meat!”
This time, Autumn burst out laughing at his expense.
Autumn thought that was the end of it after she turned Zinnia down.
It wasn’t until the wedding that she realized she’d underestimated her own appeal.
Early that morning, several young men crossed the ice with Killian to bring Willa over from the next hill for the wedding.
The people of Westfield didn’t pull any tricks, and Killian brought Willa back without a hitch. Everyone followed them to Leonel’s cavern, where the wedding was being held in the dining hall.
The moment the people from Westfield stepped inside, their eyes went wide.
The cavern was unbelievably warm.
Every heater was running at full blast, and pots of scallions, chives, parsley, and basil were arranged around the room.
The potted herbs were both practical and decorative.
The sight made more than a few guests green with envy.
The apocalypse had begun over six months ago, and many of them had gone months without tasting a fresh vegetable
Yet Leonel’s people had so many fresh vegetables that they were using them as decorations!
The extravagance was unbelievable.
One guest from Westfield couldn’t resist tearing off a chive leaf and eating it on the spot, savoring every bite.
Zain and Silas were better supplied, but even they had little fresh produce.
They had enough pride not to follow the Westfield residents’ example. Instead, they quietly decided to trade with Leonel for more leafy greens later.
Representatives from Aurora Base and the shelter had arrived too and were chatting warmly with Leonel.
Autumn couldn’t be bothered to socialize, so she sat at the table where the men had gathered and waited for the wedding feast to begin.
A pretty young woman rushed toward Autumn, crying, “Oh, I’m sorry!” She seemed about to fall straight into Autumn’s arms, but Autumn caught her by the collar and pushed her away.
