Chapter 88 The Wedding Preparations
Killian tossed down a card and said, “Everyone knows what this wedding is really for. We’re just putting on a show to keep everyone happy”
“That’s not fair. Willa’s carrying your child.”
Killian said, “We won’t know if it’s mine until she gives birth. Even if it isn’t, I wouldn’t mind keeping her around as long as she knows her place. I’m more worried that she’ll join us but keep working for Westfield behind our backs!”
The people around him immediately laughed, and one of them said, “You know, my luck with women has really turned around lately. Several women have quietly told me they’re interested. Once they see how well we live at the wedding, I’ll have women lining up!”
Someone replied, “Are you kidding? Of course they will. Just look around. No one else has fresh vegetables, meat, endless food and beverages, and a warm place to sleep. We used to be broke losers no woman would look twice at. Now they’re all chasing us. Ha!”
The whole group burst out laughing.
Killian tossed down another card and said, “Jokes aside, Mr. Wright brought us here and gave us a home, so don’t forget what he’s done for us. On the wedding day, none of you had better mess up Mr. Wright’s plans. Got it?”
“Got it,” the group replied in unison.
The wedding was only a day away.
David and several of his apprentices had already started preparing.
They had to feed nearly 300 people, which meant using a massive amount of food and kitchen supplies.
David had spent years in the restaurant business, so it took him only a few minutes to put together the wedding menu. He took it to Leonel, who glanced it over and gave it a quick nod of approval.
With people chopping vegetables, cutting up meat, preparing side dishes, and tending pots of braised meat, the entire mess hall was soon buzzing.
The wedding venue was ready too.
It wasn’t as lavish as the wedding venues from before the apocalypse, but a red carpet covered the floor. and the cavern felt warm and inviting.
Several women from Westfield showed up and said they’d come to help.
David assigned them to jobs like cutting vegetables or washing dishes and kept them far away from the finished food
The mouthwatering smell of braised meat filled the air as the women stared at the food. Their mouths watered, but they never got a chance to sneak a bite.
Autumn couldn’t resist the smell of braised meat either. She strolled over to the finished dishes with a plate and asked for a serving.
When David saw her, he quickly sliced up some braised brisket, smoked sausage, roast pork, and glazed ham, tossed everything with a little sauce, and handed Autumn the plate. He was determined to spoil his niece.
When David’s apprentices saw this, they were happy to join in. They piled freshly sliced roast beef. smoked turkey, and cheddar onto Autumn’s plate.
They filled it to the brim.
