Daniel took the documents and looked at them, shocked. "When did you collect this?"
"I went to the Finance Department earlier and did some digging. Ralph was arrogant; he thought no one in the company could touch him, so he wasn't careful. It was easy to find evidence of his crimes."
Daniel thought his daughter was incredibly capable.
"Mr. Whelan, Mr. Edward Whelan and Miss Cathy are here," Lily announced.
"You guessed right." Daniel felt Elena was practically psychic.
Edward Whelan and Cathy walked in, looking grim. Ralph trailed behind them, looking smug, as if he had found his backers.
"Daniel," Edward called out reluctantly.
"Edward. What brings you to the office?"
"Daniel, we're family, so I'll be straight with you. Mr. Rourke has been working diligently for this company. You've only been in charge for two days, and you fire him? What are you trying to do?"
Cathy glanced at Elena and chimed in, "Exactly, Uncle Daniel. We heard you fired Ralph just to give his job to Elena. That's nepotism!"
Daniel thought to himself, *Thank goodness Elena prepared for this.*
"Edward, and Cathy, watch your words. I had my reasons for firing Ralph. Besides, since Mother handed the company over to me, how I run it is none of your business."
Edward was puzzled. His brother had always been soft-hearted. Why was he suddenly so tough?
Back at the family estate, he was a pushover.
He wasn't used to this dominance.
How vicious!
"Mr. Whelan, I'm being framed! I didn't..." Ralph tried to explain.
Elena cut him off. "Still trying to deny it? Ralph, putting aside your absences and truancy, you've cooked the books multiple times!"
"You used business trips as an excuse to go on vacation with company funds! You forged invoices for thirty thousand dollars on items that cost ten thousand, pocketing the difference. And numerous times, you created expenses out of thin air, with all the money going into your pocket. According to our investigation, you've embezzled over a million dollars! That's illegal misappropriation of company assets. You've committed a crime!"
Ralph looked at Cathy. They had done this together.
They had spent that money together—they were a couple, after all!
"Elena, why are you digging up old accounts? Grandmother didn't say you could run the company!" Cathy stepped forward to challenge her.
