“You...” Emily clenched her fists, burning with rage.
If it were the past, she would have wanted to go up and slap her.
But she wasn't part of the Whelan family anymore; no one would defend her.
Emily turned to leave. If she couldn't afford to offend them, couldn't she at least hide?
“Stop. Did I say you could leave?” Cathy didn't intend to let her off.
“What do you want?”
*Smack!*
Cathy slapped Emily right across the face.
She revealed a malicious smile. “To hit you!”
She couldn't bully Elena, but surely she could teach an imposter a lesson?
“You...”
“Cathy, she was Uncle Daniel's adopted daughter for eighteen years, after all. You should show some restraint,” Jane came over to mediate.
“Jane, don't play the good person here. It's fine if you pretend in front of Grandmother, but I don't buy that act!”
After saying that, Cathy walked away.
Jane didn't mind; instead, she went to comfort Emily.
“Emily, are you okay? That's just Cathy's personality. You two have never gotten along since you were kids; you know that. Don't take it to heart.” Jane smiled gently.
“Mhm.” Emily nodded.
Elena saw all of this.
Jane was indeed better at handling people than Cathy; no wonder the Matriarch liked her so much.
As for Emily, she was trying so hard to integrate into the Whelan family that she insisted on coming. Her humiliation today was her own fault.
When leaving the Estate, Emily cried to Amanda, saying Cathy bullied her today.
Amanda just sighed. “I told you not to come, but you wouldn't listen.”
Emily pursed her lips, daring not to speak.
Claire spoke coldly, “You brought it on yourself.”
She told the others to go back first, saying she had something to do.
The Whelan family left, and Elena walked to the roadside where a Maybach was parked.
Sean stepped out.
“Boss!”
“Mhm,” Elena responded and opened the back door to get in.
Sean followed her in. He took out the documents he had prepared.
“Boss, this is last quarter's financial report. The company's profits are all here. And over here are the documents you need to review.”
Elena quickly flipped through them, then held out her hand.
Sean hurriedly handed her a pen.
“Boss, rest assured, the cooperation with Mr. Whelan is going smoothly. Mr. Whelan is a man with ideas and good ability, much better than Thomas Sterling ever was!” Sean said.
He was still worried that the incident with Nancy Vale had upset Elena.
