“Ben, put your sister down!”
“Ben, Elena's going to get dizzy!”
“Ben, what are you doing!”
Everyone started panicking.
Ben was tall and burly, and in his arms, Elena looked like a little kitten.
After being spun around a few times, she felt a bit lightheaded.
Ben's enthusiasm... was not something just anyone could handle.
“Elena, are you okay?” Chris asked.
He was the only one in the family who knew the full story, and his heart ached for her.
He had thought he might lose a sister, but thankfully, she had returned safely.
“Chris, don't worry, I'm fine. Just a little dizzy.” Elena rubbed her temples.
“Ben, don't do that next time!” Chris glared at his older brother.
Ben scratched his head sheepishly. “Heh, I was just happy. I haven't seen my baby sister in so long.”
The family sighed helplessly.
“Quick, sit down and eat. Elena, have you eaten yet?” Claire asked, holding Elena's hand.
“Not yet. I was waiting to eat with you all.”
“Quick, get Elena a bowl and utensils!” Amanda ordered.
Claire kept holding Elena's hand and whispered, “Elena, I'm so sorry. I know you went to save someone. I've been worried sick about you these past few days. If you hadn't come back, I would never have forgiven myself.”
“Claire, don't talk like that. Be careful Mom and Dad don't hear. I'm fine now.” Elena smiled.
“Don't give me that look. Elena, I'm your brother. I can protect you now. I don't know what you went through in the past, but I'm here. Is there anything you can't tell your brother?”
Hearing Chris's scolding, Elena felt a warmth in her heart. He was just concerned about her.
“Some things can't be explained in a few words. I kept it from you because I didn't want you to worry. I only came into your lives recently. If I was gone, you could have just pretended this sister never existed.”
“Hey! What kind of talk is that? You say it so lightly. Do you have any idea that I haven't slept well in days? I had to worry about finding you while putting on an act in front of the whole family. Jon is about to take his finals, so we couldn't let it affect him, and Mom and Dad are getting older, so they couldn't know either.”
Elena lowered her head and gently tugged at Chris's sleeve.
“Okay, Chris, I know I was wrong. Let me off the hook this time?”
Seeing Elena looking so pitiful, Chris couldn't stay mad.
He patted her head. “Alright, I won't lecture you anymore. Just keep yourself safe from now on. By the way, does Dylan know you're back?”
“No.” Elena shook her head.
