"I'm sure it's just a coincidence. You're overthinking it. What could this possibly have to do with Emily? She's our real daughter!"
"Fine. It's getting late. You handle Emily's arrangements. I'm going to bed. Tomorrow, I'm going to Aurelis Holdings myself to find out what's going on."
...
At the Whelan house.
After some discussion, they decided to add the family name to Elena's.
From now on, she would be known as Elena Whelan.
It preserved her given name while adding her new surname.
Elena had no objections; such things didn't matter to her.
In the morning, Amanda prepared breakfast and called everyone to eat.
It was a simple meal .
Ben, the eldest brother, wiped his mouth and grabbed his hard hat from a shelf.
"See you, Elena. I’m off to the construction site. When I get paid this month, I'll buy you something nice!"
He gave Elena a friendly pat on the shoulder as he spoke.
The milk in Elena's mouth almost shot out.
"Th-thank you, Ben. Ahem."
"Hey, be gentle! Elena is delicate. She can't handle your bear paws!" Claire said, already protective.
They all knew Ben was strong and often didn't realize his own strength.
"Hehe, I'll be more careful next time! I'm off!"
Life was hard, but their faces were filled with a sense of happiness and hope for the future.
"I'm full. Time for me to head to work. I'm going the same way as Claire!" Chris, the second brother, stood up.
After everyone had left, Amanda began clearing the table.
"Elena, are you going to school today? There's a bus stop right outside our door. It's quite convenient," Amanda asked.
"I'll go this afternoon. I don't have any classes this morning. I'm going to check on Dad."
With that, Elena headed upstairs.
Their house had two floors. The ground floor was mostly used for raising pigs and chickens and for storage.
The living quarters were on the second floor.
"Elena, what brings you here?" Daniel asked, surprised.
