Theresa Ellington woke up early, getting ready to head to the office.
Logan Hughes followed her outside.
"Get in," Logan said, opening the car door.
"I'm not getting in. I'll go by myself."
Logan looked at her, entirely confused. "What's with this attitude?"
"What I do has nothing to do with you. You don't need to follow me. There is absolutely nothing going on between us."
"But Mr. Ellington asked me to be your bodyguard."
"I don't need one!"
With that, Theresa slung her purse over her shoulder and stormed off.
Logan stood frozen in place, utterly bewildered. Did she wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
He had noticed her attitude toward him had been terrible lately.
He had no idea what he had done to deserve it.
He sighed heavily.
Women were truly impossible to figure out.
Theresa walked toward the main road to hail a cab, determined not to share a ride with Logan.
Just then, she saw a pregnant woman trip and fall onto the sidewalk.
She hurried over to help her up. "Ma'am, are you okay?"
The pregnant woman winced. "My stomach feels a bit off."
"Should I take you to the hospital?"
"No need. I just need to go home and lie down for a bit. I live right around the corner. Miss, could you just walk me back?"
Theresa hesitated. It was almost time for work.
She still needed to catch a cab to the office.
"Miss, if it's too much trouble, forget it. I can walk myself!" the pregnant woman said, turning to leave.
"Wait, Ma'am, I can't just leave you like this. Let me walk you home."
Theresa stood up and headed for the door, but after taking only two steps, a wave of intense dizziness washed over her. She collapsed to the floor.
A wicked smile crept onto the pregnant woman's face.
When Theresa finally regained consciousness, she found herself tied up.
"Where am I?" Her head felt heavy and groggy, like she was still half-asleep.
Just then, a man and a woman walked into the room.
"Ma'am, you..." Theresa stared at the woman. Her stomach was completely flat, looking nothing like the pregnant woman from earlier.
A terrifying realization hit her. She had been set up!
"You lied to me! You weren't pregnant at all, you tricked me!" Theresa yelled frantically.
Brenda smirked triumphantly. "That's right. I set a trap, and you walked right into it. Miss, if you want to blame anyone, blame your bleeding heart. In today's world, who actually stops to help a stranger? I honestly didn't expect to find someone as naive as you."
"Let me go! What do you want? Let me go! Untie me!" Theresa struggled desperately against her bindings.
Hank stepped forward and slapped her hard across the face. "Stop squirming. Now that you're here, you aren't leaving."
