Lorna's heart felt like it was bleeding!
She had barely gotten to wear this million-dollar dress for a single day to show off, and now it was ruined!
Her heartbreak was incredibly genuine, though for entirely different reasons than everyone assumed.
"What's wrong? It's just a dress. Are you really that upset over it?" Theresa asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"This... this was a birthday gift from my mother! I wouldn't care if it was anything else, but this dress holds so much sentimental value to me!"
*Yeah, right. A gift for her birthday?*
Theresa thought to herself, *That was a gift from my mother for my sixteenth birthday!*
This woman was a pathological liar.
Charles immediately rushed to Lorna's defense. "Theresa, watch your tone! This dress is incredibly expensive. What's wrong with Lorna being upset? Not to mention it was a gift from her mother. Are you trying to guilt-trip her so you can get out of paying for it?"
"He's right, Theresa. You're completely out of line here. Just pay up! Look at how devastated poor Lorna is."
"I used to think she was alright since she stood up for us in the cafeteria, but I didn't realize her character was this rotten. Tearing someone's dress out of pure spite."
"I was shaking just touching a dress that expensive, and she had the nerve to rip it!"
"Pay up! You have to compensate her!"
Theresa swept her gaze over the angry crowd and let out a dismissive scoff. "Fine, I'll pay. But you don't get to just pull a number out of thin air. Lorna, show me the receipt. Whatever the total is, I'll reimburse you."
Lorna froze.
She didn't have a receipt!
"Lorna, pull out your phone and show her the transaction record. I'm so sick of this. She ruined your clothes and is still acting this arrogant. I want to see the look on her face when you slap her with the proof!" Charles said, practically trembling with righteous indignation.
Theresa just found the whole performance hilarious.
Lorna started stammering again. "My mom bought it for me, so the purchase history is on her phone. I don't have it."
"Then call your mom and ask her to send a screenshot!" the coworkers suggested helpfully.
Lorna was paralyzed with panic.
"What's wrong? You can't produce a receipt, and you can't produce a purchase record. Could it be that you stole this dress?" Theresa asked, a mocking smile playing on her lips.
Charles immediately sprang to life, playing the loyal lapdog. "Theresa, what the hell are you talking about? Lorna's family is loaded. Why would she steal a dress? Just wait until she gets that screenshot. She's going to ruin you!"
