"Alright, the bones are sorted out. Daniel, now you need to step in and handle the estate! Edward is using his age to completely screw me over!" Gavin interjected hastily.
At the mere mention of the inheritance, Edward and Gavin instantly began barking at each other again.
"Shut your mouths! Mom's body isn't even cold. She's still lying in the hospital morgue, and instead of figuring out her funeral, you're standing here warring over money. It is absolutely chilling! Do you want your own children to treat you like this when you die?" Daniel scolded them sharply.
Both men lowered their heads in silence, though inwardly, neither of them felt a shred of remorse.
"This is how we're doing it. We handle Mom's funeral first. Everyone outside of this family has their eyes on us right now. Do you want to strip the Whelan family of its last ounce of dignity? Are you trying to make us a laughingstock?"
"Fine, Daniel. If that's how it is, we'll listen to you. We'll handle Mom's funeral first and sort out the rest later! But let me make one thing crystal clear: before the estate is divided, nobody touches a single item in this house!" Gavin declared.
No one raised any objections.
Shortly after, Elena and Daniel left the old residence.
They had no intention of taking a single dime from that place anyway.
The Second and Third Branches suddenly felt that the study was cursed and unlucky. They went out of their way to avoid it, never daring to step near the room again.
Having finally reached a temporary truce, the three brothers worked together to manage the funeral arrangements.
The service concluded smoothly, and Old Mrs. Whelan was laid to rest at the cemetery.
Edward and Gavin couldn't care less about the grim irony of the situation, choosing to bury Old Mrs. Whelan's casket directly beside Arthur Whelan's plot.
Old Mrs. Whelan probably never imagined that in death, Arthur's remains would be unearthed and placed right next to her.
"Gavin, you can divide it if you want. But if you do, Edward gets to pick first."
"That... can't I just divide it and pick first?"
Hearing this, Daniel couldn't help but stare at him. How could a grown man say something so utterly shameless with a straight face?
"Gavin, your heart is black as coal! You want to split the estate and pick first? Where is the fairness in that? I say we go with Daniel's idea. I'll split it, and you choose!"
Eventually, both sides were forced to agree to the terms.
Wasting no time, Gavin drew up a comprehensive inventory of all the Whelan family businesses, properties, and cash accounts under Old Mrs. Whelan's name.
He carefully divided everything down the middle and let Edward make his selection.
