Neither side had any further objections to the division of assets, and the paperwork was processed swiftly.
Finally, Daniel gathered everyone at the Whelan Old Residence for one last meal.
Aside from Nate and Jon, who were both studying abroad, every member of the First, Second, and Third Branches was present.
They completely filled the large dining table.
Daniel sat at the head of the table—the seat that had always belonged to Old Mrs. Whelan.
Everyone stared at the food spread before them, no one daring to pick up their silverware, waiting for Daniel to speak.
"Edward, Gavin, this is the first time our three families have sat down together since Mom passed away. It's the first time, and it will be the last. The estate has been divided, and your two families are officially separated. From now on, you will manage your own households. I will never intervene in the grievances between your families again. Let's drink this glass and go our separate ways!"
Daniel raised his glass. Everyone around the table followed suit and drank.
This was likely the most unified the family had ever looked.
Setting his glass down, Edward offered a painfully hypocritical smile. "Daniel, please don't blame us for being stingy. Everyone knows your Elena is the real boss behind Aurelis Holdings Group. Your family is swimming in cash. We figured you wouldn't care about these small pickings anyway, which is why we didn't leave you any of the Whelan estate. You won't hold a grudge against us, will you?"
Daniel shook his head calmly. "Rest assured. Even if Elena didn't own Aurelis, I still wouldn't have wanted any of it. True wealth is finding contentment. Amanda and I were perfectly happy back when we lived out in the Outer Northern Farmlands. However, as your eldest brother, I'll give you one final piece of advice: money is merely a worldly possession. Keeping your family harmonious and safe is what truly matters."
"Yes, yes, yes, Daniel is absolutely right. We brothers will still be relying on your guidance in the future!" Gavin smiled, eager to butter him up.
"No! Gavin, you've got it twisted. My dad made it perfectly clear just now. After this drink, our three families go our separate ways. We walk our own paths and have absolutely nothing to do with each other! From the sound of it, you're still expecting my dad to watch your backs?" Elena suddenly spoke up, cutting through the pleasantries.
