**Whispers Shape Distant Tomorrows by Aren Cole Vale**
**Chapter 125**
“Yes, she has indeed transformed.”
With this thought lingering in her mind, Christina pursed her lips, a flicker of contempt dancing in her eyes. “How could she possibly remain unchanged? Her entire family is filled with filth, and now she’s been paired with someone utterly unsuitable. It’s akin to tossing pearls before swine. This world is truly unjust.”
As she observed Dominar, who wore a smug expression that made her stomach churn, a wave of resentment washed over her for Margaery.
Nearby, a gentleman cast her a curious glance, his brow furrowing in disbelief. Only the lady from the Marquis of Longridge’s estate would dare to insult Dominic so brazenly in front of the Hadley family, he mused.
Yet Christina remained unfazed. Instead, she reached for Phillipa’s sleeves, her voice low but insistent. “Phillipa, let’s approach Margaery shortly and check on her injury. I brought some medicine from my mother that might help her.”
Phillipa regarded her with a hint of concern. “Alright, but remember, Sophia’s birthday celebration is happening later. She was here to assist Margaery but chose to keep her distance for now.”
Just then, someone broke the tension, directing a question toward Dominic. “Lord Domusic, it’s been said that you and Lady Margaery of the Wallen family were betrothed since childhood, with the engagement taking place when you were both very young. But looking at you now, it seems more like a fleeting childhood promise than a serious engagement.”
Dominic, feeling a surge of pride swell within him, brushed off the implications with a smirk, eager to show off. “Of course, it’s more than just a childhood promise. I fell in love with Margaery at first sight. While there were some bumps along the road, my feelings for her have never wavered.” His voice carried a hint of bravado as he spoke her name, as if it were a treasured secret.
Margaery, who had been silently observing, felt a mix of embarrassment and discomfort at the attention. Dominic, sensing her hesitation, declared with a flourish, “Moreover, I vow never to repeat my past mistakes. I will stand by Margaery’s side, support her, and we will build a beautiful life together.”
As he spoke, he turned to Margaery, his gaze expectant. “Isn’t that right, Margaery?”
All eyes shifted to her, and she felt a knot tighten in her stomach. The weight of their gazes was almost unbearable. How was she supposed to respond?
Just as frustration began to seep into her thoughts, a voice cut through the air, echoing from the entrance. “Prince Dashnell has arrived.”
A wave of relief washed over Margaery as she turned towards the door, her heart lifting as she greeted him. “Prince Dashnell.”
His arrival felt like a timely intervention, she thought, her spirits buoyed.
Through the doorway, Dashnell’s gaze fell upon the young lady before him. A smile unconsciously tugged at the corners of his lips. Even from a distance, he could sense her eagerness, the anticipation radiating from her.
Their eyes met—Margaery’s bright with a mix of surprise and joy, while Dashnell seemed oblivious to Dominic’s presence, his focus solely on her.
The question posed by the gentleman remained unanswered, swallowed by the moment. Seamus chuckled awkwardly, attempting to fill the silence. “Margaery is just a bit shy,” he ventured, but the words felt hollow.
Everyone in the room was taken aback. When had they ever seen Margaery shy? In her eyes, there was a clear spark of something more profound.
Docus, standing behind Margaery, could not see her expression, and thus remained unaware of the subtle tension building around them.
As the guests rose to greet Dashnell, a chorus of “Your Highness, Prince Dashnell,” filled the air, mingling with an undercurrent of curiosity.
He brushed past the gathered crowd, his attention fixed solely on Margaery. “Margaery, you’ve been missed,” he remarked, his tone carrying a hint of concern. “Find a seat and rest.”
The guests exchanged glances, their expressions shifting to one of intrigue. Was Dashnell subtly implying that the Hadley family had neglected Margaery? The whispers of her serious sword injury had circulated, and while the Hadleys appeared warm and welcoming, many wondered if their concern was genuine or merely a facade.
In a heartbeat, it became clear that today’s birthday celebration was anything but ordinary.
Dominic’s smile began to fade, replaced by a shadow of unease, while the expressions of the Wallen and Hadley family members grew increasingly sour.
