“When I wake up… will you still be here?”

Keith’s voice is soft, uncertain. He lies on the therapy chair, eyes searching mine.

Part of me feels like he can sense my discomfort, but that can’t be possible. We haven’t mated or established any type of connection yet.

Emma beseeches me with her eyes, tilting her head slightly to urge me to say yes.

“Yeah. I’ll be in the waiting room when you’re finished,” I say.

Emma explained to Keith that doing the hypnotherapy would allow her to bring his beast forwards and connect to them to explore what is going on.

Her ability to not only heal the physical body but the metaphysical one of our wolves is what sets her part from other healers.

“Okay. I’ll hold you to it,” he says.

“Keith, get comfortable on the couch,” Emma says and then turns to me gesturing towards the door. “Let me speak to you for a minute.”

I follow her and she closes her examination room door softly.

“That was unexpected.”

“Yeah. I wasn’t even aware of his struggles with his wolf and apparently his Lycan. How is that possible? I was with him for three years.”

“The fact that there are pieces that don’t match with your memory makes me think the memory walking story may hold more weight. One thing is certain though, your bond is strong if the connection moves through alternate existences with you.”

My wolf whines and grunts, pawing at the floor in frustration.

I’m with you girl.

This is complete bullshit.

“We haven’t bought ends in any way, how is it possible for him to feel me this much?”

“The memory of walking might have something to do with it. Even if it’s not and you both should me who carry pieces of this other existence, the fact is that you were bonded. What if a small part of the bond still exists inside you.”

“It could explain why my wolf is struggling so much even though we haven’t had much contact.”

“He clearly cares a lot about you. I could sense his beast fighting for control in the room. His instincts to claim you are almost physical. I know this is going to be a hard ask for you but from what I’ve seen today I think you might need to stick by him.”

My disbelief and displeasure must show in my face because she follows up with, “If not to figure this all out then at least for the duration of his treatment. It’ll help stabilize his emotions.”

I hesitate, then nod. “I’ll do it for you.”

Emma puts her hand on my shoulder and squeezes in a motherly manner.

She heads back in the room and as the door opens I see Keith laying down on the lunge couch his eyes closed and his breathing even.

The peaceful expression on his face remix made me lazy morning and afternoon spent in each other’s arms. The first time he smiled at me and in a reverent way he always looked at

I can’t watch anymore.

It hurts.

Being near him, feeling the tug of the bond while the memories of whatever our time together was threatens to rip it apart.

I turn down the hall to leave when the door opens again and Emma pops her head out.

“If Alpha Keith wakes up and doesn’t see you, can I give him your phone number?” Emma’s

ventures.

I sigh. “…Fine.”

“Okay, it’ll be about two hours.”

I get off Blue Rock pack territory as quickly as I can. I need some space to think about everything Emma dumped on me today and I know just the place. There is a little local bar just five miles outside our pack land where locals, shifter and human go to drink, bullshit and gossip.

Needless to say those humans know nothing about our true existence but we do our best to be seen as members of the community to dissuade distrust.
