REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 102
Dad didn't break eye contact, a slight, knowing smirk touching the corner of his mouth. "I'm sure we've met years ago." he said.
Nysa hurried to cut him off, her voice pitching up a fraction of an octave. "No." she replied. At the head of the table, Grandfather let out a heavy sigh, waving a hand dismissively. "Stop grilling people, Pedro. Can't you stop being a Mafia Kingpin for five minutes and just act like a normal guest?" Grandfather said and Nysa flinch so hard she swallowed the bite of food in her throat the wrong way. She started coughing violently, her face turning beet red as she grabbed at her chest. Caroline panicked, jumping up slightly to hammer a frantic hand against Nysa's back while shoving a glass of water into her hands.
Carlton looked down the table at her, his expression tight with annoyance. "What is wrong with you? Can't you behave for a single meal?" he asked.
I picked up my napkin, folded it neatly, and set it down beside my plate. I leaned forward just enough to catch her eye, keeping my voice calm and conversational. "Sister. What did we talk about?" I asked softly.
Nysa's eyes snapped up to mine, wide and filled with a desperate, pleading look. She knew exactly what I meant. The unspoken threat of the videos hung heavy in the air between us. I just kept staring right at her, waiting.
She swallowed hard, her shoulders dropping in defeat as she forced the words out. "I know. Sorry." she said quietly.
I gave a small nod, picking my water glass up. "Good. Let's continue." The dinner dragged on, feeling painful in a slow, torturing way for the people squirming in their seats. Midway through the meal, Dario stirred the silence, looking across the table. "Godfather, what did you find out?" Dario asked.
Dad set his fork down, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "Well, it's complicated. Both mother and daughter are dead, and the man involved is beyond mad. It's understandable to be honest, because I would be mad too and probably do what he did. He raised a child thinking the child was his, only to find out his wife lied and the child was never his. He murdered the wife and the child in their sleep." Dad said.
The second those words were spoken, Caroline dropped her fork with a sharp clatter, and Nysa squeaked out a high-pitched sound before choking on thin air. Every single pair of eyes at the table turned straight toward them.
Nysa jumped up so fast her chair screeched loudly against the floor. She knocked her water glass over, the liquid spilling everywhere while she scrambled to pick it up with shaking hands. "I'm sorry, I have to go, I need to be somewhere," she blurted out, her voice cracking.
I stared right at her, my voice dropping low and sharp. "Sit down, after all the trouble you have caused, I wanted both families to have one peaceful dinner together without drama before I get married, and you can't even act civilized for one meal." I said.
Caroline jumped up right behind Nysa, flapping her hands. "We need to go, we really do." Carolien said. From the other end of the table, Carlton looked at them both, his face turning dark with fury. "Why can't the two of you ever have some decency? You both sit down right now and act like you have some sense.” Carlton pointed a finger at Nysa. "I've spoiled you too much. If you take one step away from this table, I will cut you off and disown you." Carlton said.
Then he glared at Caroline. "You are her mother. You of all people should have some manners and not let her run wild are you both trying to shame our family and ruin Nyxara's life?" Carlton asked.
Trapped by his threats and the heavy silence of the room, they both slowly sank back down into their seats, looking defeated and ashamed. The dinner continued in a tense, awkward silence, the heavy air thick with everything left unsaid. Five minutes later, Nysa pushed her chair back and excused herself to use the washroom.
I didn't wait a second, I quietly excused myself from the table and followed her down the hall.
I caught Nysa just as she was walking out of the bathroom. Before she could react, I grabbed her arm, shoved her backward right back into the bathroom, and slammed the door shut, locking it tight behind us.
I leaned against the door, looking at her with a calm smile. "Didn't I warn you yesterday?" I asked.
She glared at me, speaking through gritted teeth. "You don't get to tell me what to do."
