Ok Grandmother asked, her expression tightening.

"We have no idea, but Pedro will handle it," Vincenzo said.

We sat and talked for a while longer, then we had lunch, and the house actually felt full again. It almost felt normal.

After lunch, Dario grabbed my hand and started leading me out of the house. "Where are you taking me?" I asked, looking at him.

He smiled. "You and I are going to the beach to relax," he said.

When we got to the car, he opened the passenger side door for me, and I got in. He walked around and got into the driver's seat. I looked at him. "You're driving?" I asked, and he smiled at me.

"Yes, I am. What, scared?" he asked, and I scoffed.

"Nope." He started the car and drove out. That's when I noticed there weren't any black SUVs trailing behind us. "Isn't security going with us?" I asked, looking confused.

"No, it's just us. Besides, my wife can protect me," he said, and I hit his shoulder playfully.

The drive was quiet and peaceful. Dario held my hand the entire time, his thumb occasionally stroking my knuckles. We had the windows down as we drove out of the city toward the seaside, the salty breeze blowing through my hair.

When we got to the seaside estate, Dario parked the car, and I got out. "I'm heading down to the beach," I said, walking towards the back of the estate, and he followed right behind me.

He took my hand in his, and we walked down to the sand. There were already two beach chairs set up under a large umbrella, along with fluffy towels and a cooler. I looked over at him. "You set this up?" I asked.

"Yes," he replied without missing a beat.

"Well then, I'll just relax here," I said, sitting down on one of the chairs and leaning back.

Dario followed suit and sat in the other chair. He opened the cooler and handed me a bottle of water. We sat in a nice, easy stretch of quiet for a few minutes.

"What did you do with Caroline?" he asked, and I paused, though I kept my gaze fixed straight ahead and didn't look at him.

"What do you mean, what did I do with Caroline?" I asked, keeping my voice level.

He turned his head and looked at me with a you know what I mean look. "Kitten, I know you did something. You had to. That security detail you have is a sneaky bastard, and Caroline just disappears off the face of the earth? It would be hard for me not to know you did something," he said, and I let out a soft sigh.

I looked at him. "What do you think I did?" I asked. He looked at me for a few seconds. "You have her locked away somewhere, probably punishing her just like you did with Nysa," he said.

My heart sank because his first thought was that Caroline was still alive.

"What if I said I killed her?" I asked, smiling at him.

"No, you wouldn't. You want revenge, but you're not a murderer," he said confidentially, and that broke my heart, because if he ever found out the truth, I had no idea how he would react.

"So what did you do with her?" he asked again.

I turned and looked right at him. "I killed her and when I find Nysa, I will kill her too. I'll take her back to that road where she killed me in our past life and stab her just like she did to me. Then I'll take her to that same road where she caused your accident and stage a car crash, then I'll push her car off the same cliff," I said, watching his face carefully.

He sat up and looked at me. "Kitten, tell me the truth, what..."

He stopped because his phone started ringing. He answered it. "Yes, Dad. When? Okay."

He ended the call, stood up, and started pacing up and down the sand. "Nyxara, you actually killed her? They found Caroline's body," he said, staring at me.

"I said I would, and I did," I replied, looking at him.

"Yes, but I didn't really think you were serious! No one really took it seriously, we thought you were speaking in anger," he said, staring at me in disbelief.
