REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 48

If they shipped Nysa off to some isolated estate in the countryside or sent her away to Europe, the game was over. I wouldn't get to watch her squirm. I wouldn't get to enjoy the slow, agonizing descent of her losing everything right in front of me, I wouldn't be able to get my revenge. I needed her to stay right here, where I could see her, where she could watch me take her crown piece by piece every single day.

Without missing a beat, I stood up from my chair, walked across the room, and closed the distance between myself and my father. I reached out, gently grabbing his hand with both of mine, letting my eyes fill with soft, pleading tears.

"Dad... please, don't send my sister away," I whispered, my voice trembling with carefully manufactured emotion. "I'll leave. If my presence here is what's causing all this pain, I'll pack my bags and walk out right now." I whispered.

I turned my head slightly, looking right at Nysa with a heavy, sorrowful expression. "I'm sorry, Nysa. I really didn't mean for this to happen. I'm not even interested in Dario. I never wanted to take him from you." I said with a sob.

Nysa opened her mouth, her eyes flashing with venom, clearly about to snap back with some vicious insult, but before a single sound could escape her lips, our father shot her a warning glare so lethal she instantly clamped her mouth shut and swallowed her words.

Seeing my apparent selflessness, my mother took it and ran with it. “Yes, you should leave. This is all your fault. Ever since we brought you back you have been ruining everything” she said.

“Shut up. You are one to talk. You’re defending her because you have been doing the same thing. Sit down and don’t let me hear another word from you” Our father said.

Our mother shrank back, shutting her mouth and slowly sank onto the couch, her face pale.

“Carlton please. I’lll keep Nysa in line, she won’t cause anymore trouble” Our mother pleaded. Nysa, desperate to avoid exile, scrambled to take the lifeline. She nodded frantically, her voice shaking as she pleaded with our father. "I won't! I swear to god, Father, I won't cause any more trouble! Just let me stay!" she begged.

Our father looked down at me, his eyes conflicted, softening at the sight of my supposed gentle heart. "Nyxara, are you sure? She doesn't deserve your kindness after the way she treated you." he said.

I looked up at him, keeping the wide, forgiving expression locked onto my face. "Please, Father. Don't send her away. Give her another chance." I whispered.

He let out a long, heavy sigh of defeat, running a hand over his face. "Fine. This is your last chance, Nysa. One more stunt, and you're out of this house permanently, do you understand?" he asked looking at her.

Nysa nodded rapidly, biting the inside of her lip to keep quiet as she slinked back against the wall, utterly defeated. My father gave my hand a gentle squeeze of approval and walked away to deal with the household staff, leaving us standing in the tense, suffocating quiet of the living room.

Everyone else thought the crisis was averted. Everyone else thought peace had been restored. But as I stood there looking at Nysa, who was glaring at me with pure, unadulterated venom from across the room, a cold, dark thrill rushed through my veins. I knew the truth. I knew Nysa couldn't help herself.

She was too proud, too angry, and too obsessed to ever let this go. She was going to try something stupid again, and I was going to be waiting for her every single step of the way.

The heavy, suffocating silence of the living room lingered long after the shouting had died down. One by one, the pieces of our shattered family dynamic shifted. Nysa didn't say another word; she just cast one last, venomous look in my direction before turning on her heel and storming out of the room, her footsteps echoing up the grand staircase as she locked herself away in her bedroom. My mother, looking exhausted, anxious, and desperate to smooth things over with her favorite child, muttered something about checking on her and hurried away down the hall.

Suddenly, it was just my father and me, standing alone amidst the wreckage of our family's public image.

He let out a long, heavy sigh that seemed to age him another five years. He walked over to the dry bar, poured himself two fingers of dark amber scotch, and stared down into the glass before setting it back down without taking a drink. He turned around, leaning his lower back against the mahogany counter, and looked at me with a completely different expression than I had ever seen on his face before.

It wasn't the distant, cold indifference of a patriarch who only cared about corporate alliances. And it wasn't the blind, enabling favoritism he had wasted on Nysa for thirty years. It was a look of raw, weary realization.
