REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 67

Grandfather tapped his cane lightly against the floor, bringing our focus back to the immediate present.

"We won't have to guess or speculate for much longer," Grandfather said calmly, though his eyes burned with quiet fury. "The DNA results will be back soon. Once we have the scientific proof of who Nyxara actually belongs to, we pull every record, hack every secure server, and tear the Vexari household apart brick by brick until we find the exact truth of what happened eighteen years ago." he said.

I didn't say anything in response. I just nodded slowly, reaching down to gently brush a stray lock of dark hair back from Nyxara's forehead. My thumb traced the smooth line of her cheek, feeling the soft warmth of her skin.

Whoever had tried to hide her, whoever had turned her entire childhood into a lie, and whoever had subjected her to a life under Caroline and Nysa's roof was going to pay. When those lab papers arrived, the world was going to burn.

I stood up and reached down, slipping one arm beneath her knees and the other around her back, lifting her effortlessly off the couch. She let out a soft sigh, her head resting against my shoulder as I carried her out of the room. I took the steps up the stairs and walked straight into my bedroom. I pulled back the blankets and tucked her gently into the mattress, smoothing a loose strand of dark hair away from her face until her breathing leveled out into a deep, peaceful sleep.

After stepping into the bathroom for a quick shower to wash away the accumulated dust and tension of the night, I left her resting safely and headed back downstairs.

The family had changed into comfortable sleepwear, grabbing fresh clothes. My father, my godfather, Pascal, and my grandfather were sitting together in a secluded corner of the livingroom, pouring glasses of amber liquor from a decanter.

My mind was a battlefield of churning thoughts, but I kept a tight, iron leash on my anger, letting cold calculation take over instead. Just as I reached where they were, Julian walked into the room, his stride was purposeful and quick. He bypassed the others and walked straight up to me.

"Boss," Julian said quietly.

I turned to face him immediately. "What do you have?" I asked.

He handed me a thick stack of documents. "So we did some digging, and the madam's birth certificate wasn't issued by a standard hospital. It came from a local midwife out in the county. The mother listed on the birth certificate is Caroline Vexari." Julian said.

He paused, letting the paper rustle in my hand.

"We checked on that midwife," Julian continued, his voice dropping an octave, "and she disappeared eighteen years ago, right around the time the paperwork was filed."

Pedro stopped mid-sip of his drink, his head snapping up. "What do you mean, disappeared?" he asked.

My father narrowed his eyes, staring at Julian. "People don't just vanish into thin air without a trace." My father said.

"Exactly," Julian replied flatly. "One day she was there, and then she wasn't." Before anyone could process that revelation, one of Pedro’s operatives walked back into the room, moving with sharp urgency.

"Boss," the operative said, stepping directly toward Pedro.

Pedro walked over, setting his glass down with a sharp clink. "What do you have?"

"We dug back," the operative reported, speaking quickly. "After Julian told us about the midwife, we went back to the initial meeting point. Rio dug through the digital files from the old club servers. We found grainy footage of the night you met the woman."

The operative held out a small digital tablet, handing it straight to Pedro.

"That's not all," the operative added, his voice tense. "Rio decided to run through from the club to the hotel. The individual left the hotel at four that morning, and Rio traced her back all the way to the edge of the Benning... and then she disappeared."

Pedro stared down at the tablet screen, his hands trembling slightly before he passed the tablet over to me. I looked down at the glowing screen and tapped play.

The video was grainy, shot from an old security camera mounted high above a dimly lit hallway. A young female figure walked into view. Even through the low resolution and the grainy pixels, the truth was instantly undeniable. Even at age twelve, I could tell that this was Nysa Vexari and not an impostor.
