Chapter 150: Chapter 148: Just Who Is the Shameless One?

"The doctors will decide whether I live or die. But I’m telling you, Charlene Miller, if you want this divorce, you have to leave Yvette with me. That’s my only condition!"

But just as he finished speaking, the door to the hospital room was pushed open again.

A tall, middle-aged man walked in. He was holding a document and went straight to Charlene Miller, handing it to her.

"This is the latest version. Everything’s been changed according to your requests. You can sign it directly," the man said in a cold voice.

Charlene Miller looked at the document in her hands with a satisfied smile, then turned back to John Lawson. "Sign it. Let’s part amicably."

John Lawson’s eyes widened in disbelief. "You... She only found out about my condition this morning, and you’ve already drafted a new agreement? Are you really helping your sister with this kind of despicable scheme?"

Hearing this, Daniel Miller feigned sincerity. "John, don’t make it sound so ugly. I’m not helping my sister; I’m helping Yvette. Given your current situation, if you were really thinking about Yvette’s well-being, you’d just sign this agreement without a fuss."

"I’m not signing it." John Lawson didn’t even reach for it, his face flushing red with anger. "If I don’t get Yvette, I’d rather not get divorced at all!"

"John Lawson, don’t be so shameless!"

"And just who is being shameless here?"

At that, Cecilia could no longer stand by and watch. She abruptly stood up and spoke out.

Seeing this, Blair instinctively straightened up, her expression wary as she faced the other two, ready to respond to any emergency.

John Lawson and the others hadn’t expected Cecilia to suddenly speak up, much less with such a sharp retort. They had been so caught up in their argument that they had almost forgotten she was even there.

Before any of them could react, Cecilia strode forward, her face devoid of expression. She snatched the divorce agreement from Charlene Miller’s hands and, with a sharp tug, ripped it in half.

"Mr. Lawson already said he’s not signing. Can’t you understand plain language?"

Charlene Miller snapped back to reality. Staring at the ripped divorce agreement, she exploded with rage. "What gives you the right to speak? Who the hell do you think you are!"

"Cecilia..." John Lawson didn’t want to get her involved and tried to stop her.

But Cecilia had tolerated enough. She hadn’t wanted to meddle in Mr. Lawson’s family affairs in the first place. Their relationship had broken down and they planned to divorce—fine, so be it.

But she never expected them to be such bullies, using Mr. Lawson’s illness as a weakness to threaten him.

She might not have had the right or the status to interfere, but when she thought about all the care and support Director Lawson had shown her for over a year, Cecilia couldn’t just stand by and watch him be bullied.

"If you can’t reach a mutual agreement, you can file for a contested divorce. But Mr. Lawson doesn’t want to sign this specific agreement, and none of you has the right to force him." Cecilia’s gaze was chilling as she stared them down. "You know perfectly well that Mr. Lawson has a rare lung disease and that getting agitated is the worst thing for him. Yet here you are, being relentlessly aggressive. Are you trying to kill him?"

"You..." Faced with Cecilia’s sudden intervention, Charlene Miller was momentarily thrown off balance. But she quickly composed herself, a suggestive smirk forming on her face as she looked between the two of them. "Oh... I thought it was just a coincidence you were there when he collapsed yesterday. I didn’t expect to see you here again today. Is your relationship really just that of a teacher and student, or is there something improper going on? Otherwise, why would it be your place to stand up for him?"

"Charlene Miller, don’t you dare slander her!" John Lawson was furious when he heard her spreading such vile rumors about Cecilia.

"What are you so worked up about?" Charlene Miller retorted, her eyes wide. "Did I hit a nerve?"

John Lawson started to explain, but Cecilia cut him off. She showed no anger, her expression remaining calm as she faced Charlene Miller. "Director Lawson, there’s no need to get upset. If someone wants to frame you, they’ll always find a pretext."

After speaking, she glanced at Blair and raised an eyebrow.
