As Saul Thorne spoke, his gaze instinctively swept across the hospital room, landing on Cecilia Sterling in an instant.
Cecilia, of course, saw Saul as well. Their eyes met, and both of them froze for a moment.
Before Saul could react, Charlene Miller had already lunged forward and grabbed his wrist. "Officer, they assaulted someone!"
As she spoke, she raised her hand and pointed at Cecilia and Blair.
Saul glanced down at the hand gripping his wrist, pulling it away with a hint of distaste. "Are you the one who called the police?"
"The nurses’ station called," a young nurse stepped forward and explained softly. "This is a hospital. They started arguing in the room, so we called the police. Then we heard a loud noise from inside, and when I came in, I saw they had started fighting."
Hearing this, Saul scanned the scene but saw no obvious signs of a fight.
’My Cecilia doesn’t know how to fight,’ he thought. But he had a strong impression of her friend—she was a skilled fighter.
"Is anyone injured?" Saul asked.
Since it was a minor dispute, mediation was the first step.
"Me, I’m injured!" Seeing his chance, Daniel Miller quickly raised his hand. "Officer, I was kicked in the stomach. It hurts right now."
"Heh." The moment the words left his mouth, Blair couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. "You were the one who tried to snatch my phone. I was protecting my personal property, wasn’t I? Officer, he’s a grown man whining about a stomachache after getting kicked by a girl. The law doesn’t just side with whoever seems weaker, does it? In that case, I want to press charges for robbery!"
"Robbery? Who robbed anyone!" Charlene Miller started shouting again. "And you think you’re justified in hitting someone!"
"That’s enough!"
Saul’s handsome brow furrowed slightly. From his experience, he could tell this whole incident was a non-issue. It was only a big deal because it happened in a hospital; anywhere else, it wouldn’t even qualify as a dispute—a verbal spat at most.
The man definitely hadn’t been kicked for no reason. Saul knew Blair was telling the truth without even needing to see the security footage.
’Getting kicked for trying to snatch someone’s phone? Serves him right!’
"This is a hospital, not a marketplace. Keep shouting, and I’ll take you all down to the station for disturbing the peace," Saul said.
He was a police officer, after all. The moment he spoke, everyone else fell silent.
Cecilia watched Saul acting all serious and proper, pretending not to know her, and she couldn’t help but let a hint of a smile show in her eyes. ’Still,’ she thought, ’that handsome face, combined with his stern and impartial demeanor just now, is actually quite attractive.’
Saul looked back at Cecilia, a flicker of emotion only they could understand passing between them. He then put on a serious expression again and asked, "Any other problems? If so, you can tell me about them back at the station!"
No one wanted to go to the police station, so they all remained quiet.
Seeing this, the young nurse stepped forward again. "Please, no more shouting. The other patients need to rest. And you can’t have so many people in here. As per the patient’s wishes, only two people should stay."
Upon hearing this, John Lawson quickly said, "My two students can stay. The rest of them can go!"
Charlene Miller and Daniel Miller heard this and reacted furiously. "I can leave," Charlene spat, "but if you don’t agree to what I just said, I’ll file for a contested divorce. Let’s just see if the court sides with you, a man with a rare disease, or with me!"
This time, John Lawson didn’t wait for Cecilia to stand up for him. He had reached his breaking point. He immediately retorted, "Then go ahead and file! I’d also like to see whether the law will support me or a woman who was unfaithful and cheated during our marriage!"
At that, everyone in the room subconsciously turned their gazes to Charlene Miller, including her own brother.
Charlene’s face turned beet red with shame and anger. "You’re talking nonsense!" she cursed.
