Chapter 54
With William gone, Isabella shut the door and began opening the
suitcase on the floor. She took the clothes out, one after the other.‘
She could hear the sound of footsteps and girls giggling outside the
door, and then suddenly, the door was kicked open.
Isabella raised her head but before she could see what was happening,
a girl flew into the room and fell at her feet.
The girls at the door seemed surprised to find someone in the room.
The moment they saw Isabella, their eyes flashed with astonishment.
“Elizabeth Perez, how come there’s an extra person in our dorm?”
Elizabeth ignored the question and focused all her attention on the
girl sprawled on the floor.
She glanced at Isabella, looked away, strode into the dorm and locked
the door behind her. The dorm was now, all of a sudden, crowded.
Elizabeth crouched down in front of the girl, looking at her with a teasing gaze. “What a coincidence, Scarlett Lewis. Running into you
on the first day of school.”

After she heard Elizabeth say that name, Isabella’s heart skipped a
beat. She knew Scarlett. They were in the same class!
From what she remembered, this Scarlett was very pretty, and when
she first joined Class 11, Scarlett was in the top five on the class
roster, which meant she had good grades.
However, after commencing the second semester of senior year,
during the first exam of the month, the homeroom teacher
announced that several students‘ performance levels had dropped
significantly, and Scarlett’s name was among them.
She had dropped from the top thirty in the grade to three hundredth
place.
Isabella didn’t have good relationships with her classmates, and she
had even less contact with Scarlett. She always thought that Scarlett’s
haggardness and poor mental state was a result of her declining
grades, causing her stress.
When it was close to the S.A.T, some shocking news broke out that
Scarlett had killed herself, jumping from the top of the school
building. The high school immediately dismissed the information,
causing all sorts of rumors about Scarlett’s death to fly around.
What Isabella heard most was that she had been bullied to death. The

news of her mom being a janitor at the school got out somehow, and
everyone knew about it.
From then on, Elizabeth and her group of mean girls set their sights
on Scarlett, and she became a victim of their bullying.
During senior year graduation, she’d seen Scarlett’s mom at the
school gate, holding up a banner that read, ‘Stellar High School, give
back my daughter’s innocence!‘
Eventually, it all died down. The police ruled Scarlett’s death as a
suicide. Their investigations concluded that she’d jumped on her own.
As for the bullying, there was no evidence.
Lost in her thoughts, Isabella suddenly heard a helpless scream ring
out. Elizabeth was violently pulling Scarlett’s hair.
“Say something?” She said with a smile before reaching out to pull
the clip out of Scarlett’s hair. “What’s this you’re wearing? Let’s see!”
“Don’t.”
Scarlett tried to stop her from taking the hair clip, which seemed to
hold some sentimental meaning to her.
“Let go!” Elizabeth frowned in displeasure. “Give it to me, you hear

me?”
Scarlett held on tight.
Elizabeth’s mood instantly soured. She tried to pry Scarlett’s hands
open, and when she couldn’t, she dragged her hair some more and
pulled at her scalp, eager to get the clip.
Scarlett cried intermittently, “Don’t…”
“Aria! Zoey! What are you standing there for? Hurry up and grab that
thing from this little bitch!” Elizabeth shrieked.
Aria walked over and pinched Scarlett’s neck.
Zoey grabbed Scarlett’s arm and Elizabeth finally snatched the hair
clip.
“What is this thing? Disgusting!”
Elizabeth looked at the clip in her hand, the kind you could tell at a
glance was cheap.
S
“Scarlett, is your family really this poor? You protect a cheap hair clip
like your life depends on it. I thought it was some kind of treasure!”

Aria stood to the side with her arms crossed, laughing mockingly.
“Her mom’s working as a janitor, what do you expect?”
Scarlett crawled up from the floor, crying, “Give it back.”
She threw it into the trash, and Scarlett started digging through it.
Elizabeth and the others laughed at the sight. “Are you crazy? Digging
through trash?”
Scarlett still found the clip in there, picked it up and put it back in
her pocket.
She rose and ran toward the door, but Zoey sneered, walked over and
