Melody Summers scoffed and said sarcastically, "Ivan Warren, who’s framing who here? You’re the one who was harassing someone, and now you want to turn it around and blame her?"
Ivan Warren’s face flushed crimson. He gritted his teeth and stubbornly retorted, "Supervisor Walsh, don’t listen to her nonsense! I—I have a girlfriend, you know that. We’ve been together from our school days to the wedding aisle. I’m completely devoted to our relationship! How could I possibly harass someone else!"
Hearing Ivan Warren say this, Lucy White immediately spoke up, "You were the one who was getting handsy with me! Don’t you dare deny it!"
Melody Summers sneered at Ivan Warren. "I can vouch for her. You were the one harassing her, Ivan Warren. And your supervisor is right here. Why don’t you ask him if this kind of behavior is a fireable offense?"
At those words, cold sweat instantly beaded on Ivan Warren’s forehead.
At that moment, Supervisor Walsh looked at Ivan Warren pensively and asked, "Warren, is what they’re saying true?"
Hearing Supervisor Walsh’s question, Ivan Warren instinctively denied it, "N-No, no... Of course not!"
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Ivan Warren frantically explained, "Supervisor Walsh, I’ve been with you for so long, don’t you know my character? It’s these two girls trying to frame me!"
He first pointed at Lucy White and said, "This little bitch knows I work for Rhodes Enterprises. She wanted to climb the social ladder, so she took off her clothes to try and seduce me! But I have too much self-respect; I didn’t fall into her trap!"
Then he pointed at Melody Summers and continued, "This woman is my neighbor. We’ve had issues in the past, so she’s helping that little bitch frame me!"
Supervisor Walsh nodded, seemingly accepting Ivan Warren’s explanation.
It wasn’t that he had much faith in Ivan Warren’s character; rather, Ivan Warren was just exceptionally good at keeping him, his boss, happy.
Though Ivan Warren had graduated from a top university, he lacked the typical arrogance of a gifted prodigy. He was incredibly slick, a master of brown-nosing and currying favor with his superiors. Supervisor Walsh found Ivan’s tact and astuteness quite useful and was planning to promote him to deputy in a while.
Now that Ivan Warren was in this kind of trouble, Supervisor Walsh still wanted to save his skin.
Besides, he knew Ivan Warren lived in The Metropolis Residences, which was basically the suburbs. As Ivan’s neighbor, the girl couldn’t have any significant background. And a young woman with no connections was someone he could easily push around.
So, Supervisor Walsh turned to Melody Summers and Lucy White. He narrowed his eyes and asked probingly, "Excuse me, do you two have invitations for this banquet?"
Melody Summers and Lucy White were both taken aback by the question.
Invitations?
It was true, neither of them had one!
Melody Summers and her mother had been personally escorted in by Sophie Thorne. Sophie had originally planned to stay with them, but an issue came up at the banquet, and she had to go deal with it.
As for Lucy White, she was staying at The Nimbus Hotel as a relative of the Simmons Family. Today’s banquet was open to all hotel guests—no invitation required. Based on her guest registration, she could have simply been waved in, a fact Lucy herself was unaware of.
Because she hadn’t originally come for the banquet anyway.
She knew today was the day her cousin, Joanne White, was helping the Lancasters carry out their "plan." The plan was so outrageous that she couldn’t stop it, but she didn’t know what else to do. Feeling utterly distraught, she had come out to wander around and get some air.
She had wandered into the banquet hall, as it was the liveliest place around, but she never expected to run into this kind of trouble here.
Seeing that neither Melody Summers nor Lucy White could produce an invitation gave Ivan Warren a shot in the arm. He instantly straightened his back.
He pointed a finger at Melody Summers and Lucy White and said to Supervisor Walsh, "Supervisor Walsh, you see? They can’t produce invitations at all! They’re just gold diggers who sneaked in to find a sugar daddy!"
"Supervisor Walsh, I was targeted by these two gold diggers! They wanted to seduce me, but I have my principles, I didn’t fall for it! You have to stand up for me!"
Melody Summers sneered at his words. She looked at Ivan Warren and asked, "Ivan Warren, you seem awfully familiar with the whole routine. Tell me the truth, how many rich patrons have you latched onto? Did you get them all eating out of the palm of your hand with all that flab?"
"You!" Hearing her, the confident smile on Ivan Warren’s face instantly collapsed. The hand he was pointing at Melody Summers and Lucy White was trembling slightly.
Melody Summers let out a derisive laugh. "Me? What about me? You have the nerve to do it, but I can’t even talk about it? Tsk, tsk. Your poor wife."
Hearing Melody Summers’s words, Ivan Warren’s face cycled through shades of white, red, and purple. She was just like she’d been in college—all offense, no defense, able to drive him out of his mind with just a few sentences.
Seeing this, Supervisor Walsh frowned slightly.
He first said to Ivan Warren, "Alright, Warren, I understand the situation now. You be quiet for a moment. Let me handle this."
