My heart stopped when I saw Andrei standing there. How long had he been watching? What had he heard?
Immediately, my mind went to the twins. Had he heard me talking to them?
I shoved my phone into my pocket and straightened my spine, walking toward him with as much composure as I could muster. “Did you need something?” I asked. I kept my voice even and my face neutral, hoping, no, praying that he hadn’t actually heard anything.
Andrei’s face was unreadable in the fading light. “No.” He glanced at my bandaged wrist. “Just wondering if you’re alright after that accident.”
I wanted to believe him, but there was something in his gaze that made my skin prickle. It seemed as if he knew more than he was letting on. I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could speak, the night was split by a long, haunting howl.
Then another. And another.
I turned to see that a large, golden orb had begun to ascend from behind the treeline.
The moon had begun to rise in its full glory, a perfect yellow disc hanging in the inky black sky. All around us, wolves began to respond to its call.
My wolf, who had been waking slowly as the effects of the contraceptive had begun to wear off, suddenly began to stir. “Mate,” Onyx whispered. “Our mate is right here.”
Panic gripped me. I tried to shove her down, but it was no use. The contraceptive was wearing off, and without the second dose I’d promised the doctor and Damon I wouldn’t take, Onyx was awakening with a vengeance now that the moon was rising.
She was taking control. She wanted our mate.
I felt like her puppet.
The festival was rapidly descending into chaos. Wolves were moving around frantically, driven by instinct to search for their mates under the moonlight. Some had already found each other and were disappearing into the shadows, hand–in–hand.
This was my chance to slip away. To find Damon and get the hell out of here before I did something stupid. Again.
I turned to leave, but Andrei was faster. His hand caught my uninjured wrist, and before I could react, he pulled me backwards against his chest. His skin was burning hot, and I could feel his heart pounding wildly against my
back.
When I looked up at him, his eyes were glowing green in the darkness.
His wolf was taking over, too.
“Let me go,” I whispered.

Chapter 125
Andrei cocked his head. He didn’t let go, “You don’t want me to,” he replied calmly, Eventy
My throat bobbed. “I do. Let me go,”
But he didn’t release me. And truthfully, we both knew that he was fucking right. I didn’t want him to let go of me. I didn’t want my mate to let me run away,
Maybe that was why I let him lead me into the shadowy forest.
Without a word, Andrei pulled me behind a large tree, away from prying eyes. His hands were everpfers the moment we were hidden–in my hair, on my waist, sliding down to grip my ass,
Before I could speak or react or do a single damn thing, his mouth found mine. His kiss was hungry, Deserde,
