Chapter 136
“What the hell is going on with him today?” he muttered. “He’s acting like a complete asshole. More than usual, anyway. Which is saying something, because he’s a fucking asshole all of the time.”
I shrugged. For a moment, I wondered if Andrei was still pissed about the banquet. Maybe he was grieving harder over the “abortion” than I thought he was. Maybe the incident during the full moon just made it worse.
If that were the case, then I wanted to speed up my investigation. I had hoped to talk to Andrei a bit today, maybe get some more insight on him so I could begin figuring out what the hell to do about the twins. But I had been so absorbed in the grueling training that I hadn’t had a chance.
Maybe I could find him in the barracks and talk to him there. If this was about grief, then I wanted to be able to tell him the truth as soon as possible. I just needed to gauge whether I could trust him first.
After Damon left to handle some pack business, I dragged my sore body toward the barracks. I was just about to ask where Andrei was when the door to the men’s locker room swung open and he stepped out.
My wolf instantly went wild at the sight of him. He was shirtless, his golden skin glistening from a recent shower. A towel was slung around his neck, and his hair was damp, curling slightly at the ends.
“Mate,” my wolf whispered. “He’s so perfect…”
I couldn’t argue with her there. Despite my exhaustion and annoyance, my body responded to the sight of him like it always did–with a rush of excitement that was getting harder and harder to ignore by the day.
“Andrei-”
He barely glanced at me as he brushed past. He didn’t stop, didn’t even look at me. Just stalked out the door and disappeared.
It was as if I wasn’t even there.
The complete lack of attention was so out of character for him that I actually turned to stare after him with my mouth hanging open.
Despite everything, this was still the man who had always watched me with hunger in his eyes, who had fucked me against a tree during the full moon, who had been moments away from marking me.
And now he was acting like I was invisible?
What the hell was going on? Was this about the full moon? Was it because of what I’d told him about the ” abortion“? Was he grieving in his own fucked–up way? Or was there something else, something I was missing?
The thought nagged at me as I showered and changed. By the time I emerged from the barracks, I’d made a decision. If I wanted answers, I needed more information. And I knew just who might have it.
I found Alina at the archery range, helping one of the younger Ashmoor wolves with their technique. She looked up as I approached, her single eye assessing my limp with a knowing smile.
“First session with Alpha Andrei, huh? How’d it go?”
I grimaced. “About as well as you’d expect. He’s… intense.
Alina chuckled. “That’s one word for it. Although I think he’s going harder on you than he ever has on anyone else.”
Yeah. She didn’t need to tell me twice.
She dismissed the young wolf with a nod, then turned her full attention to me. “Something on your mind, Luna?”

I glanced around to make sure we were alone. “I need a favor. A discreet one.”
“What kind of favor?”
“I need to get a message to Mila,” I said. “And I need it to stay between us.
Alina was quiet for a moment, considering. “Any particular reason?”
I hesitated. How much could I trust Alina with something this sensitive? Mila seemed to trust her, and I enjoyed her company, but that didn’t necessarily mean I should tell her about the twins.
“Just some pack business,” I finally said, which wasn’t technically a lie.
She studied me for a moment longer, that one eye narrowing, then nodded. “Alright. I can get a message to her. No one will know.”
Relief washed over me. “Thank you.”
I pulled a folded piece of paper from my pocket–a note I’d hastily scribbled before coming to find her. It was brief, just asking Mila to discreetly gather any information she could about Andrei’s recent behavior and moods. Alina took the note and tucked it securely into her boot. “Consider it done.”
