“I’m the weak link?” I laughed out loud, “That’s rich coming from you. You’ve been an absolute dick to me for weeks now.”

Andrei’s nostrils flared. “I’ve been trying to train you.”

“Bullshit. You’ve been punishing me, not training me. Every time we practice together, you act like I’m just a burden. Why even offer to train me if it pisses you off so much?”

“Maybe I’m hard on you because you’re reckless and undisciplined,” he snapped. “Maybe I’m fucking pissed because you keep making the same mistakes over and over.”

“Don’t play dumb. Ever since the full moon, you’ve been treating me like garbage. Is it because I ran away? Because I wouldn’t let you fuck me in the woods?”

Damon had finished off the last rogue and was making his way toward us, but I barely registered his presence. All of my focus was on Andrei. On the anger and frustration that had been bubbling up for weeks now and was finally boiling over.

Andrei’s eyes widened. “Watch what you say.‘

I gritted my teeth. “Or maybe,” I bit out, my volume dropping to a growl now, “you’re just angry because you can’t get Lilith pregnant. But guess what? That’s not my fucking problem.”

Andrei took a step back, his brow furrowing. “What are you talking about?”

I opened my mouth to respond, but Damon suddenly stepped between us.

“That’s enough. Both of you. Now.”

I flashed him a dangerous look, but he just shook his head at me and turned toward his brother.

“You,” he said to Andrei, “need to take a walk. Cool down.”

For a moment, I thought Andrei might refuse. His jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle ticked in his cheek. But then he turned on his heel and stalked away without a word.

As soon as he was out of earshot, Damon turned to me. “What was that about?”

I stared after Andrei’s retreating form. “I don’t even know anymore. He’s been impossible ever since the full moon. It’s like he’s deliberately trying to push me away.”

“Maybe he is.”

I glanced at Damon. “What?”

Damon gave me a meaningful look. He didn’t need to say anything for me to know what he was referring to. Damon wasn’t stupid, and I hadn’t deliberately tried to hide anything that was going on between me and Andrei since the banquet. He knew damn well what had happened what had been cut short–in the woods during the full moon.

1 huffed and looked away,

“I’ve been considering telling Andrel the truth about the twins,” I admitted,

Damon blinked, “You didn’t tell me that.”

“Because I didn’t know if I would even get that far,” I whispered. “But for a while, I really did begin to think that maybe we were wrong about him all this time. That maybe he didn’t try to have me killed. That maybe… Maybe it’s time to tell him about the twins. Let them meet their real father.”

He didn’t answer for a moment. When I finally looked up at Damon, his jaw was tense, but his gaze was understanding.

Damon knew as well as I did just how hard it was on the twins to keep them from their father. Especially Max.

And recently, having to keep them hidden away in the cottage, separated from me and the life they knew in Ashmoor… It just made it infinitely worse.

But I shook my head. “I don’t think it’s a wise decision now, though. I don’t know if I can trust him. He’s too unpredictable. These past weeks have been proof of that. In fact, I’m not even sure if we should continue the alliance.”
