Chapter 151
Natalia
“We’re almost home,” Damon said softly, glancing at me in the rearview mirror. “Grace is waiting with the pack
doctor.”
I nodded, too exhausted to speak. Behind us, Andrei followed in a separate vehicle with Mila. I hated that part of me was wishing that I was in that car instead, beside Andre
Three days. I had been in that rogue camp for three days, and it felt like a lifetime. But Grace and the twins were all okay, and right now, that was all that mattered.
When we pulled up to the pack house, Grace was waiting on the front steps with tears streaming down her face. The moment I stepped out of the car, she had me wrapped in her arms.
“Thank the Goddess,” she sobbed. “I was so scared. I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you.”
“It’s not your fault,” I managed, surprised that she cared so much. “Are the twins okay?”
“They’re fine. Sleeping upstairs. They’ve been asking for you nonstop.”
The pack doctor checked me over in my bedroom, cleaning the cut on my neck and examining the rope burns on my wrists. Physically, I was in decent shape considering what could have happened. Exhausted and sore, but nothing that wouldn’t heal.
“You need rest,” she said, packing up her supplies. “And plenty of fluids. The stress on your body was significant. Your wolf is okay, too; just needs to sleep for a few days to recover after being drugged so often.”
How ironic, considering the fact that I had put my poor woll through a similar hell by giving her a contraceptive. I made a silent vow to make sure I never did that to my wolf again, and after the doctor left, Damon knocked on the
door.
“Can I come in?”
I was sitting on the edge of the bed in a clean nightgown. My hair was still damp from the shower, and I felt almost alive again.
“Of course.”
Damon closed the door behind him and sat in the chair across from me. “We need to talk,” he said. “About Andrei. About Andrei and the twins. He saw them, Natalia.”
Of course he did. Without hesitation, I reached into the pocket of my robe and pulled out Mila’s note. “Then you need to see this.”
Damon read it silently, his frown deepening with each word When he was finished, he looked up at me. “Where did Mila get this?”
“She found it. Not sure where, exactly, but does it matter? I took the note back, folding it carefully. “It’s his handwriting, Damon. I’d recognize it anywhere.”
“This could be forged.”
“By who?” I shook my head. “Even if it was, we can’t risk m knowing that the twins are his until we find out for certain. I still fear he’ll try to take them away. That he’s stil the same vindictive-”
“I don’t know, Natalia,” Damon cut me off. “After these past two days… seeing how hard he fought to save you… How desperate he was to find you… It’s hard to believe he would do anything to hurt you or the children.”

I blinked, surprised that Damon was standing up for the brother he hated so much. Things had been changing between them lately, hadn’t they? “You saw how cruel he has been to me for the past few weeks,” I muttered.
Damon sighed and passed his hand over his face. “I know, t… I just think we should be logical about this.”
“I’m trying to be.”
Before Damon could say anything else, Max and Jane suddenly burst through the door like tiny hurricanes, launching themselves at me. I caught them both, holding them as tightly as I could without hurting my sore ribs.
“Mommy!” Jane cried, her face buried against my neck. “We were so scared!”
“I know, babies. I know.” I kissed the tops of their heads, breathing in their familiar scent. “But you were so brave. You got help just like I told you to.”
Max pulled back to look at me. “We changed, Mommy. We turned into wolves.”
My throat tightened. Their first shift. I’d missed their first shift because I’d been chained up in a rogue camp.
“Tell me about it,” I said, trying not to cry.
