I shook my head, although my mouth was already watering for another taste. “I’m not changing my mind just because you bought me sweets.”

“I’m not trying to buy you.” He stepped closer, and I found myself backing up until my hip hit the table. “I’m trying to remind you.”

“Remind me of what?”

“Of this.” He lifted the chocolate toward my mouth again, and this time I didn’t pull away. His fingers lingered against my mouth for a moment, and without meaning to, I parted my lips.

But then his smile turned feline and he snatched the candy away, popping it into his own mouth instead.

“Luna Natalia?” A young assistant poked her head into the room. “They need you for the final lighting check on stage.”

“O–Of course,” I said, cringing at the way I stammered. “I’ll be right there.”

The assistant disappeared, leaving Andrei and me alone again. But the spell was broken now, and I realized that I had almost let myself get manipulated by candy and sex. What a fool I was.
