Chapter 177

The venue for the charity fashion show was busier than I’d expected. Staff members were rushing around adjusting lighting, caterers were setting up tables and chairs, and models were practicing their walks on the runway that had been set up in the center of the ballroom. The whole place was buzzing with activity.
I was checking over tomorrow’s schedule on my phone when one of the event coordinators approached me with a small folded piece of paper.
“This was left for you at the front desk,” she said, already hurrying away to deal with something else.
The note was written in neat handwriting I didn’t recognize: “Dressing Room 3. Final fitting adjustments needed.”
That was odd. All the fittings were finished yesterday, but maybe something had come up with one of the outfits.
Dressing Room 3 was at the end of a hallway lined with mirrors. I knocked once, then pushed open the door.
The room was empty except for a single chair and a small table. On the table sat a small gold box with a label that made my eyes widen. My favorite salted caramels… The ones that cost more than most people’s weekly grocery budget and took weeks to ship from overseas.
My mouth immediately began to water. I hadn’t had these in months. Not since before Andrei found out I was alive. Damon used to get them for me for special occasions, and I always had to ration them otherwise I’d eat the whole package in one sitting.
How had these gotten here? Had Damon sent them? Trying to cheer me up about everything, maybe?
I was just reaching for the box when the door clicked shut behind me.
“I was wondering when you’d find those.”
I spun
around to find Andrei leaning against the door, his stupidly muscular arms crossed over his stupidly muscular chest. He was dressed casually in dark jeans and a gray sweater, the fabric of which strained against his broad shoulders and thick biceps. Dark hair was tucked behind his ears, and he was smirking at me.
Smirking.
“You,” I said, immediately stepping back. “Did you send those?”
He pushed away from the door and slowly walked toward me. Too slowly, as if he wanted me to see each line of his perfect form. “Do you want them?”
I looked back at the candies, then at him. “What’s the catch?”
“Smart woman.” He stopped just close enough that I could smell his familiar scent, and it almost made me dizzy. We hadn’t been this close since the last fight in the pack house, when he’d found out about the twins. But then, I’d been too angry and frightened to notice how intoxicating it was. “There’s always a catch.”
“So what is it?”
Instead of answering, he reached past me and opened the gold box. The rich scent of caramel and dark chocolate

filled the small space between us. He selected one of the perfectly round sweets and held it up.
“Open your mouth,” he said quietly.
“Andrei-”
“Just trust me.”
There was something in his green eyes that made my wolf howl with anticipation. My tongue began to flick against the backs of my teeth, pulse spiking. I wanted the candies, but I also wanted to taste his fucking fingers.
Against my better judgment, I parted my lips slightly. He placed the candy on my tongue with infinite care, his fingertips brushing my lower lip for just a moment before he pulled his hand away.
The familiar burst of salt and caramel flooded my senses. I closed my eyes and let out an involuntary little moan. When I opened them again, Andrei was watching my face with an intensity that made my traitorous heart flutter with excitement.
“Good?” he asked. His voice was low, hardly more than a rumble.
