Chapter 220

Natalia

My stomach dropped as the photographers, apparently having some! crowded closer to Andrei’s car. This was exactly what I’d been afr twins here? They didn’t deserve to be hounded by reporters just b

ard of my return to Moonshadow,

had I been thinking, bringing the parents had a complicated history.

It’s alright,Andrei said quietly, noticing the way my hands shook as I unbuckled my seatbelt.

ok as I unbuckle

But it didn’t feel alright. It felt like a mistake. A huge, terrible mistake that was going to traumatize my children more than they already were and probably end up splashed across every gossip magazine in the territories.

I could already picture the headlines, the rumors, the speculation. The twins would grow up with this following them everywhere, whispers and stares and questions about their legitimacy.

Andrei remained by my side as we helped the twins out of the car, but nothing could shield the twinsfaces from the photographers. The moment the twinsfeet touched the ground, the camera flashes became blinding, and the shouts turned into an incoherent din.

We exchanged glances as the crowd surged, blocking our way toward the front door. Security was on its way, but even the Moonshadow warriors couldn’t seem to manage the sudden and unexpected frenzy.

Hey! Hey, kid!One photographer pushed his way to the front, a large black camera covering his face as he bent down to Jane’s level. Kid, what’s your name?

Jane looked up at me uncertainly. My heart pounded, eyes flicking to the car.

I was just about to suggest to Andrei that we remain in Ashmoor after all when Jane suddenly marched right up to the man and placed her little hands on her hips.

We’re a family, she announced with all the confidence of a sixyearold who’d never doubted anything in her life. Mommy and Daddy and me and Max. That’s what families dothey stick together.

With that, she turned around and grabbed both mine and Andrei’s hands, planting herself firmly between us while Max clutched my leg.

The cameras immediately swiveled to capture this unexpected moment. All Andrei and I could do for a second was stare in shock at Jane’s masterful manipulation of the paparazzisomehow turning an opportunity for them to speculate on our relationship into something sweet and too innocent to twist in a negative way.

My cheeks turned warm as several photographers cooed and awwed at the scene, cameras still flashing but mood having shifted. This wasn’t exactly how I’d pictured our arrival going, but I couldn’t bring myself to deny what Jane had said. Not when she looked so proud and happy to declaré us a family.

Andrei met my gaze over Jane’s head. Maybe I misread it because it was so quick, but I swore I saw him wink and faintly smile at me.

So you are back together?one of the reporters pressed, turning to us again.

We’re figuring things out,Andrei said calmly. What matters most is what’s best for our children.

And how long will you be staying at Moonshadow?Another photographer shoved her camera in my face.

As long as we need to,I said, finally finding my voice thanks to my daughter’s confidence. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’d like to get the kids settled.

To my surprise, the photographers actually started backing off. Maybe it was Jane’s adorable declaration, or maybe they’d gotten enough material for their stories, but they allowed us to gather our bags and head toward the pack house without too much additional harassment.

That was awesome!Jane whispered as we walked up the front st when I told them we were a family?

you see how surprised they looked

Very impressive,Andrei agreed, ruffling her hair. And it was inessive in bed. I had to give Jane credit; she certainly knew how to work the crowd, like a little Alpha in the making.
