Chapter 236
Natalia
My father.
That was impossible.
If I had a father, a father who was alive and well… Then why the hell did I wind up in an orphanagy?
The rage in my face must have shown, because the man’s expression crumpled further. “I can expén. You were taken from us when you were barely three months old. Stolen in the night.”
Stolen. Not abandoned. Not unwanted. Stolen.
“I spent my formative years in foster care thinking my parents didn’t want me,” I whispered
“We never stopped looking,” the man said quietly. “Never stopped hoping we’d find you alive.”
I wanted to ask more questions, wanted to understand how this was possible, but Max’s unconscious form in David’s arms reminded me why we were here. Everything else could wait.
“My son,” I said, looking between the Alpha, David, and the healers. “Will he be okay?”
“The healers will take good care of him,” the Alpha assured me. “But you look exhausted. Why don’t you get settled, clean up, and join us for dinner tonight? You can learn more about your pack then.”
I looked to David. His face softened. “It’ll be alright, Natalia.”
My gaze snapped to the Alpha once more. My father. “What’s your name?” I blurted out.
“Alexander.”
“I’m not sure what name you gave me, but I go by Natalia now.” I glanced at Andrei, who was watching the exchange with a carefully neutral expression. “And this is Andrei,” I added. “My mate.
The word came out automatically, the way it always had despite everything. But Alexander’s reaction was immediate. His eyes flicked to Andrei, then back to me, then to my neck where a mating mark should have been.
“Your mate.” He said it slowly, as if he didn’t fully believe it.
“Yes,” I said, lifting my chin slightly.
“I see you haven’t completed the bond yet.
Heat crawled up my neck. “That’s complicated.”
“I’m sure it is.” Alexander’s gaze lingered on Andrei for another long moment before he turned back to me. “
We’ll talk more at dinner.”
It wasn’t a request.
One of the healers stepped forward. “We really do need to get the boy to the healing chambers now.”
I nodded, even though everything in me wanted to follow Max and stay by his side. David seemed to understand.

“The healers know what they’re doing,” he said gently. “Max will be in good hands. I promise.”
I watched as they carried my son deeper into the compound, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. Andrei moved closer to me, and the press of his arm against mine was comforting enough to at least allow me to draw in half a breath.
“Come on,” David said. “I’ll show you to your room.”
He led us through corridors carved directly from the mountain stone, past tapestries and murals that depicted wolves with silver markings similar to the ones I’d seen on the pack members outside. Everything was beautiful and ancient and completely foreign to me.
David took Grace and Damon to their room first. We exchanged quiet words before they slipped inside to rest and bathe.
“And this is yours,” David said, stopping at a heavy wooden door across the hall. He pushed it open to reveal a spacious room with a large bed, a sitting area, and windows that looked out over the forest we’d just traveled through.
“Thank you.”
“And this one is for your… mate,” David said, gesturing to a door down the hall.
Andrei shook his head immediately. “I’m staying with Natalia.”
“These are separate quarters,” David explained.
“I understand that. I’m still staying with Natalia.” Andrei took a step closer to me. “No offense, but I’m not leaving my mate alone in a strange place.”
David looked between us, clearly wanting to argue. “She’s not alone. She’s with family.”
“Family she met two hours ago,” Andrei pointed out.
I cleared my throat. “I want Andrei to share my room with me.”
David hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. “Very well. Dinner is in two hours. Someone will come to escort you to the dining hall.”
After he left, I sank down onto the edge of the bed and put my head in my hands. The events of the day were finally catching up to me, and I felt overwhelmed and, frankly, exhausted. I didn’t want dinner, not really. I just wanted to be by my son’s side. And perhaps sleep for a week straight.
