Chapter 237
“They don’t like me,” Andrei pointed out.
I had noticed the same thing, of course. My father and brother–it was going to take a very long time to get used
to that clearly had qualms with Andrei. It likely had something to do with the fact that he hadn’t marked me
—
yet, I figured. Perhaps they were traditionalists. I supposed that spending your entire life isolated from the entire world could do that.
“They just met you,” I said carefully. “Give them time.”
“And what if they think I’m not good enough for the Alpha’s daughter?”
I glanced up at Andrei through my fingers and noticed the tension in his shoulders. But I couldn’t help but smile faintly. “You’re not seriously implying that I would let a couple of strangers dictate who I’m with.”
Andrei shrugged, and I shook my head with amusement. Rising, I crossed the room to meet him and looped my arms around his neck.
“I want you,” I whispered, leaning up on my tiptoes to press a kiss against his lips. “No one else.” Then another kiss on his jaw, and a third along the column of his neck.
Andrei growled low in his chest. His fingers dug into my hips, pulling me closer. “If circumstances weren’t, well … circumstances, I might consider taking you right now.”
I rolled my eyes and swatted at his chest, although there was no real heat in it. “Typical male.”
“Can you blame me?” He dipped his head to nip at the sensitive skin just below my ear. “I’d like to finish what we started earlier. Perhaps even give you that mark they seem so concerned about.”
The very thought made my entire body go rigid. I pulled back just enough to look Andrei in the eye, and the sincerity I saw there stole my breath away.
He meant it. He wanted to mark me after all this time. And it wasn’t just biology making him want it, but his heart instead.
I swallowed hard and stepped away, refusing to think about that right now. When we returned to Moonshadow, though… Perhaps then we would have to have a talk about… tradition.
“We should focus on Max right now,” I said.
“And then?”
“And then we’ll go home to Jane and get back to our lives.”
“Where is home, exactly?” Andrei asked. “Moonshadow? Ashmoor?” He gestured around us. “Here?”
“Wherever you and my children are,” I admitted.
That seemed to satisfy him, and he nodded.
“We should get ready for dinner,” I said then, walking over to the small closet. There were a few garments hanging inside; nothing fancy, but there was a simple blue dress that felt like cotton.
