Chapter 247

While Damon discussed the wounded and the dead with one of the medics, I was approached by my Beta, who informed me that one of the rogues was captured and left alive for questioning. I immediately made my way over to the tent where he was being held.

You,I said by way of greeting as I swept into the tent, owe us an explanation.

The rogue, dirty and bloodcovered with a wildeyed look beneath a mop of dark hair, one side of his head shaved, didn’t even look at me from where he was tied up to the tentpost.

Who is your leader?I demanded. Or did my warriors squash him or her like a maggot already?

No answer. The rogue simply spat at my feet and turned his head away, clearly having no intention of speaking

to me.

I curled my lip and loosed a low growl, feeling my wolf push just beneath my skin in righteous anger. My Beta stepped forward, fist raised to punish the rogue, but I raised my hand to stop him and shook my head.

Too soon. If I knew one thing about interrogation, it was that a little time was often all it took to loosen the tongue.

Make sure he gets to the Moonshadow cells alive,I ordered my Beta through our mindlink. I’ll visit in the morning to see if he’s decided to talk.

Yes, Sir.

While my Beta ran off to arrange for the prisoner to be transported, I returned to Damon, who was in the midst of a brief with Mila. For the rest of the night, we worked around the clock to ensure that the wounded were tended to, the border was secured and strengthened, the roguesbodies were burnt, and the families of our dead were informed.

By the time the sun rose the next morning, I hadn’t slept a wink. But my work was far from finished; I still had a prisoner to question.

After a quick breakfast of black coffee and some cheese and sausage that I barely tasted, I made my way down to the cells beneath the Moonshadow armory. The guard standing watch outside the prisoner’s cell bowed sharply to me before unlocking the door and stepping inside.

Sleep well?I asked, stepping into the cell. The rogue was chained to the wall by both wrists, sitting upright to ensure he couldn’t get comfortable.

Not in the slightest, the rogue grunted, rattling his chains. Your fucking cronies made sure of that. Kept throwing water on me all night every time I nodded off.

Good, I’m glad to know they followed my orders.I strode over to the rogue and dropped to a crouch in front of him. I grabbed a handful of his hair and lifted his head so he was forced to look at me. I can revoke the order if you tell me everything you know.

I don’t knowshit. The rogue wrenched his head away, leaving several black hairs in my fist like it was nothing. I’m just a grunt. Just like the rest of us. The orders get passed down, and we slaughter you fuckers like fucking pigs.
