Chapter 251
Andrei
Leaving the rogue chained to his spot in his cell, I immediately made my way across the hall to where Lilith was being held.
It had been weeks since I’d last visited her, and for good reason. After what she did to Natalia and the twins… 1 couldn’t beat to look at her face. Couldn’t bring myself to look into the eyes of the vengeful woman who nearly succeeded in taking everything from me.
Seeing her now, though, was admittedly jarring. Lilith had always prided herself on her beauty, particularly her hair. Its golden waves were now matted and greasy, clumps hanging in her face like she’d been locked up in this cell for months instead of weeks.
Her face was drawn and tired, and her cheeks were stained with old mascara from tears that had long since dried up. Her eyes were ringed with red, the once–white scleras now a sickly, glassy hue. And she sat curled up in the corner with her knees drawn to her chest while she scratched tick marks into the wall with her nails.
“I heard you turned down your daily baths,” I said, wrinkling my nose at the smell as I stopped in front of the cell. I didn’t want to enter, not for fear of Lilith, but of myself. If I got too close to her… I knew I would kill her with my bare hands.
“The water is too cold. And I don’t trust the guards.”
I lifted my brows. “You’ve known everyone in this pack your entire life, Lilith. Trust in them isn’t the issue here. In fact, it’s quite the other way around.”
“They betrayed me by locking me up in here.”
“You betrayed all of us. Including two innocent children who never did anything wrong.”
Lilith didn’t have an answer to that, which was for the best, I supposed. I doubted she’d done much reflecting on her actions during her time in here so far, but at least she’d resigned herself to stop trying to justify it, if only to ensure her neck didn’t wind up with my hands around it.
I cleared my throat and decided to just get straight to the point. “Do you know anything about the rogues?”
“Huh?”
“The rogues,” I said, folding my arms. “You know as well as I that they’ve been becoming more and more organized over the years. A large group of them just breached our eastern border and killed four young, promising warriors before reinforcements arrived and took them out.”
Lilith snorted. “Don’t tell me you’re coming here to ask me for strategic advice now. You can’t seriously be that desperate.”
“I’m not.” I hesitated, watching her for any sign of… well, anything, but she was mostly turned away from me. The rogue across from you said he recognized you, though.”
”
At that, Lilith stiffened. It was so quick I almost missed it, but it was there before she returned to her scratching. “Rogues are liars.”

“Iain well aware of that,” I said, and I was being genuine. It was a long shot to think that the rogue was actually being serious when he said Lilith knew something, but my curiosity got the best of me. “But if you learned anything during your time in captivity, it would be prudent of you to tell me what it is.”
Even if I did learn anything, which I didn’t,” Lilith growled, still without looking at me, “why would I tell you? You locked me up in this disgusting fucking cell with the rats like our love meant nothing to you. You’re the last person I would help right now.”
