Natalia’s POV

I walked over to join Andrei at the railing and leaned against him, letting his warmth soothe me. The stars were particularly clear tonight, forming a canvas of glittering silver and midnight blue overhead.

It’s a nice night,I said, resting my cheek against the warm plane of his chest. His heartbeat was strong and steady.

It is.Andrei glanced at me sideways. You having a good time at your

party?

I am. Grace outdid herself, even if I told her not to.

Andrei’s mouth lifted. She was right, you know. You’re allowed to celebrate even when the world is bleak. It’s what makes all of this worth it.

I let out a soft sigh. I know. You’re both right. I’ve just been so worried about everything lately that I can’t seem to let myself rest and be happy.

Trust me, I know the feeling.Andrei drew me a little closer, and for a few moments, we stood in silence and looked out over the estate grounds. Most of the damage from the attack had been repaired, but I could still see scorch marks on some of the buildings where the rogues had set fires.

Meanwhile, the party was still going strong inside. The sounds of laughter and chatter drifted out through the open windows. It sounded like someone had begun to play the piano, too, much to the delight of Damon, apparently, who was currently whooping from the sounds of it.

Have you thought about names?Andrei asked suddenly, glancing at me again.

A little. Not seriously, though. It’s still early.I tilted my head to look at him. Have you?

Maybe. The tips of his ears reddened faintly, but he admitted, If it’s a boy, I was thinking maybe Matthew. After my grandfather.

I wrinkled my nose. One of my elementary school bullies was named Matthew.

Andrei snorted. Okay. Maybe not Matthew, then. Elliot was another name I’ve always liked.

Elliot.I smiled at that. I like it. It’s soft but strong at the same time. What about for a girl?

I don’t know. Something strong. Victoria, perhaps.

Victoria is a beautiful name.

Andrei turned toward me, still holding me in his arms. What about you? Any preferences?

I thought about it for a long moment; truthfully, I hadn’t had the chance to consider such things yet. I’d been so focused on survival lately that thinking of baby names felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford. For a boy, maybe Adam. For a girl, I like Rhea.

Andrei nodded, smiling now. I like both of those options. Maybe we’ll need to have more kids, just so we can use all the names.

I swatted at his chest, although I was smirking. Why don’t you try carrying a child in your belly for nine months and tell me how many more kids you want to have after that?I teased. Besides, knowing your family’s history, we’ll probably have another set of twins.

Another boy and a girl would be perfect.

Yes.My smile softened. It would be.
