Chapter 333
Natalia’s POV
When we finally made it back inside, Grace’s eyes immediately zeroed in on the ring gleaming on my finger. She shot to her feet from where she was perched on Damon’s lap and pointed at my hand.
“Natalia! He finally asked!”
Everyone turned to look at me in shock.
“Yes. We’re engaged,” I said, holding up my hand so everyone could see the ring “Again.”
The room erupted into cheers and congratulations, and everyone crowded around to get a better look at the ring 1 blushed but held up my hand for all to see. It was then, with the motion, that my ring slipped right off my finger and plopped into Grace’s drink.
The room went dead silent.
“Oh, shit,” I said, staring down at the cup where the sapphire was now sitting at the bottom. “I thought it felt a little too loose.”
Andrei’s face went pale. “That’s my fault. I had no way to double–check your size, and-”
“Relax,” I said as Grace fished the ring out and handed it back to me. “It’s just a little loose. I’ll take it to the jeweler tomorrow and have it adjusted.”
Andrei nodded, relieved that it hadn’t been lost in a place where we might not have found it. We spent another hour or so with everyone before the night finally began to wind down.
By the time we’d gotten Max and Jane to bed, it was nearly midnight. Andrei and I retreated to our room, which was already warm from one of the servants starting a fire in the small fireplace earlier.
Andrei shut the door behind us and turned to me. “So,” he said, reaching out to twirl a strand of my hair around his finger, “I don’t know about you, but I’m not quite tired just yet-”
I didn’t give him a chance to finish. I grabbed his wrist and yanked him closer, our mouths crashing together with such intensity that our teeth clacked against one another. Andrei groaned into my mouth, equal parts surprised
and aroused.
We began to stumble across the room, kicking off our shoes, but didn’t make it far before there was a soft knock on our door. Andrei huffed disappointedly into my mouth and reluctantly pulled away from me, crossing the room. He opened the door to find his Beta standing in the hallway.
I sat on the bed with a sigh, listening to them speak in hushed voices for a moment. I noticed the way Andrei’s shoulders tensed, and felt my stomach tighten nervously. Something was wrong
When he finally shut the door and turned to me, the grim look on his face made me feel sick
“What is it?” I asked, pressing my hand to my stomach.
“There’s more rogue activity on the southern border. A lot more. Our scouts are reporting movement that suggests another large–scale attack is imminent–as early as tomorrow night. I need to get down there at first light and assist however I can.”
“I’m coming with you,” I said automatically.
Andrei’s jaw ticked. “Natalia,” he said carefully, “I’m sorry, but this is where I draw the line. You can’t go into battle while you’re pregnant.”

I wanted to argue, but deep down, I knew he was right. No matter how badly I wanted to be by his side, I couldn’t put the child at risk. Besides, someone had to stay behind and make sure everything at the estate was under control.
“Fine,” I said quietly. “But I don’t like the idea of you going, either. We only just reunited.”
