Chapter 346
Natalia’s POV
When Andrei took me down to the prison cells, I was intrigued. I thought he might take me to see a rogue that had been captured but I certainly didn’t expect him to take me to see her.
Lilith.
I hadn’t seen her face in months, and I preferred to keep it that way. The last time I had seen Lilith had… not been pleasant. She had tried to kill my children, as if it wasn’t bad enough that she’d tried to kill me on numerous
occasions.
She had stolen my life once, and she had nearly stolen it a second time that night she pushed my fucking children into an ice–cold pond.
Seeing her now, even though she was huddled in a cell with her hair unkempt, having lost weight, lost the color in her skin, the fire in her eyes–it made the rage I’d felt the last time I’d seen her suddenly come bubbling to the surface.
Not like a pot about to boil over.
But like a pressure bomb set to explode.
And the moment she jerked her head up to look at me with those wild, tired, bloodshot eyes, I lost it.
“You.”
I surged forward and ripped the knife from its sheath at my hip without even thinking. Andrei tensed beside me, but didn’t stop me.
But if he had tried, I’m not sure if it would have worked.
The knife moved of its own accord. The heat that suddenly surged through it was unlike any of the brief moments of warmth I’d felt before. It was suddenly burning hot, so hot it nearly singed the skin of my palm. The rubies didn’t just glow faintly, but rather burst forth with a light so radiant it was as if it came from the full blood moon itself.
What happened next… I could believe my eyes.
You
One moment, the knife was grasped in my fist, vibrating with the heat of the hells themselves.
And the next…
It was flying across the room like it had a mind of its own.
“Natalia!” Andrei shouted. Lilith shrieked and covered her head with her arms, curling up in a ball on the floor. The knife shot right past her, so close I could hear the sound of it ripping through her clothes.
Then, with a metallic ping, it embedded between the stones behind Lilith. The hilt vibrated, reverberating with the force of the impact-
And then it yanked itself out of the wall and shot right back toward me, hilt first, like a devilish boomerang.
Andrei shouted something, but I didn’t hear him. Somehow, my reflexes kicked in, and I shot my hand out to catch it.
Strangely, the knife returned to my hand like a loyal pet might return to its master. It didn’t slam into my palm
1/2
like I’d expected, but rather hovered there, walling I closed my fingers around it, and it went cool and still again.
The room was so silent that all you could hear was the sound of water dripping somewhere.
I stared in shock down at the knife in my hand. The ethereal glow was gone. The metal was cool once more. For all Intents and purposes, it was just… a dagger. An inanimate object.
