Reclaimed By My Alpha (Natalia and Andrei) novel Chapter 364

Natalia’s POV

She’ll be fine with me, Alpha,Alina said as we prepared to return to the Moonshadow estate. I won’t let her out of my sight. You have my word.

The thought of having to have a bodyguard, even if it was someone I trusted like Alina, made my stomach churn. It felt like a step backward in time; it was like I was back in Ashmoor during those five years of hiding, constantly having to look over my shoulder and keep to the shadows.

But I had agreed for the baby’s sake. For the twinssake. I was no use to any of them if I was kidnapped by rogues. Finding out why they wanted me in the first place could be done safely, not by actually letting them rip

me away.

I’d love to come back with you, but I have business to attend to here,Andrei muttered, turning to me. He would be remaining here overnight, overseeing the wall progress. I wanted to stay with him, but after what happened, we agreed it would be best if I went home.

I nodded stiffly, and he pulled me close. Are you sure you’re okay?he whispered.

I’m fine.I forced a smile and placed my hands on either side of his face, and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Andrei’s jaw ticked. He returned the kiss with greater desperation, and then he was gone, called away by work. I stared after him for a moment before I made my way over to the car, where Alina was waiting for me.

By the time we returned to the estate, it was nearly sunset. The rest of the day was quiet. I tended to pack business, ate dinner with Max and Jane, and tried not to worry aboutwell, everything.

The twins, of course, were fascinated by the tall, armed woman who was following us everywhere. They asked loads of questions throughout dinner and bedtime, which Alina answered very patiently for a woman who looked mildly chagrined to be playing babysitter not just for an adult woman, but for two rambunctious sixyear -olds who couldn’t stop poking her leathers and asking why she had so many knives.

Once the twins were in bed, the estate felt quiet and peaceful. I went to bed and fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.

But I couldn’t have been asleep for long before I suddenly woke to the sensation of a rough hand pressing over my mouth. My eyes flew open in the darkness, and panic gripped me.

A figure was leaning over me. I couldn’t make out the features, but I didn’t have to; I knew that this person didn’t belong here, and they had come for one thing.

For me.

My first instinct was to scream for Alina, but the man pressed his hand harder over my mouth and leaned closer.

Don’t fight,he hissed in a low, gravelly voice. You’re coming with me whether you like it or not, and it’s easier if you go nicely. With his free hand, he pulled out a small vial that stank like some kind of narcotic potion when he held it near my face. And I doubt you want a dose of this. Not very good for the baby.

My mind whirled. Those rogues earlier had said they wanted me alive. He was offering for me to walk out of here

on my own two feet, so long as I complied.

But there was no way in hell I was going without a fight.

I drove my knee up as hard as I could, aiming directly for his groin. The impact was swift and satisfying. He grunted and his grip loosened for a fraction of a second, which was just long enough for me to twist away.

While he was distracted, I rolled, scrambling off the side of the bed, and lunged for the bedside table. My knife glinted in the darkness almost as if it were waiting for my instruction.
