Chapter 384

Mind control,Helena went on, counting on her fingers, supernatural strengthsonic hearingBut I guess you already knew that one.

One final yell caused me to turn. I whirled around just in time to see a large, brutish male charging at me with a battleaxe.

The scimitar slammed into the back of his skull before he could take two steps.

Only then did I look at Helena. What is your end goal here?I asked, catching the scimitar and stalking over to her. Equip an army with these weapons, and then what? World domination? I took you as someone less–

Don’t take another step.

Helena touched the red stone at her throat as she spoke, and suddenly, my body froze. I wasn’t suspended in time or iceit was as if my body physically refused to disobey her command.

Slowly, Helena stood, picking up the skirt of her dress. She approached me like I was a mere fascination, nothing more. I could see the gleeful interest in her eyes. The hungry way she licked her lips.

She was like the rubies. Hungry for blood. Hungry for suffering. Never to be fulfilledonly sated for a time. Demons never quenched their unending thirst, after all, not when the fires of hell stoked their hearts.

As I stood there, frozen, Helena brushed past me and walked over to the storeroom door I had come out of. She slipped inside for a moment; I couldn’t turn, couldn’t move. Just remained standing there, suspended with the scimitar held over my head.

When she returned, she waspushing something. A wheelchair.

My breath would have caught, could I have made it do so, when she pushed the chair into the light to reveal a face aged beyond its years. Alexander. Natalia’s fatherhe looked forty years older, crippled and demented and completely unaware of his surroundings.

Helena stroked his last few remaining patches of hair and grinned at me

Isn’t he perfect?she breathed. To age one beyond their years in the span of a few momentsit’s truly a feat of science and magic. I told my husband that we should create a ruby that does the oppositereverses aging. She shrugged. But this will do for now. I quite enjoy using this one, and I look forward to using it on those children.

Children.

She was going to use the ruby to age children. No wonder she was so hell bent on breeding her daughter like a cow

-she had the secret to rapid aging. A little army of powerful wolves in an instant.

But first,Helena went on, lifting her hand to reveal a small ruby ring around her finger, I think I’ll practice it one more time. On you. I think it will be interesting to break your mate like that- to send you home to her, twice her age. I wonder if she’ll still like you when you can’t get it up anymore.

I couldn’t move. I remained frozen in place as she tapped the ring and the ruby began to glow. My hand, stretched in front of me with the scimitar still clutched, began to darken. Age. Wrinkles that hadn’t been there before suddenly began to form.

I struggled internally against the will that kept me frozen, urged the scimitar to finish her before she aged me further, but it was no use. I couldn’t shout. Couldn’t even blink.

All I could think about was Natalia’s face. The shock in her eyes when I returned to her, broken and crippled like

Alexander.

That’s enough, Mother.

The croak of an old woman’s voice suddenly cut through the chaos in my mind. A woman’s voice that I knew, but didn’t know. Distant andchanged.

Celeste brought the battleaxe down onto her mother’s skull with what remained of her strength. Helena crumpled. to the floor, unrecognizable and already dead.

And a moment later, Celeste, in the form of an eighty year old woman, collapsed alongside her.
