Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 216

His expression tightened, genuine discomfort visible now beneath his attempted composure. "I haven't told her anything suggesting serious commitment."

"But you haven't corrected that misunderstanding either, have you," I said, watching him carefully. "You've simply continued accepting her attention, her obvious hope for genuine relationship, without actually clarifying your genuine intentions."

He was quiet for a moment, and I understood, watching his expression, that my accusation had genuinely landed regardless of whatever defensive protest he might attempt.

"I'll talk to her," he said finally, though I could hear genuine reluctance beneath his apparent acceptance.

"You should have already," I said firmly. "Ethan, this is exactly what everyone's already warned me about. You claim to be genuinely different, that finding your actual mate has somehow changed everything, and yet within twenty-four hours, I witness you continuing exactly the same pattern of careless, misleading behavior."

"That's not fair," he said, genuine frustration entering his voice now. "I haven't actually pursued anything with Priya since yesterday. She's simply continued her own interest independently."

"But you haven't actually stopped her either," I pointed out sharply. "You haven't clarified that whatever previous flirtation existed between you is genuinely finished, that you've found your actual mate and intend to actually pursue that connection properly."

Something in his expression shifted at that, genuine consideration replacing his earlier defensiveness. "You're right," he admitted quietly. "I should have already addressed that directly, rather than simply allowing the situation to continue unresolved."

I studied him carefully, understanding this represented at least some measure of genuine accountability, though continued skepticism remained heavy in my chest regardless.
