Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 228

"Her background is genuinely relevant," the woman insisted, though her voice carried noticeably less venom now with Nadia actually present. "How is she supposed to genuinely lead alongside Ethan eventually, given everything her mother did to this pack?"

"I am not my mother," Nadia said quietly, though her voice carried genuine steel beneath its careful composure. "I've spent years actually working to build my own character, my own understanding of genuine accountability and healing, entirely separate from whatever damage Genevieve caused."

"Convenient distinction," the woman muttered, though considerably more subdued now.

"It's not convenient," Nadia said, her voice sharpening slightly. "It's genuinely difficult, actually. Confronting the reality of your own heritage, working to actually transcend that painful beginning rather than simply allowing it to define your entire future. I imagine that's considerably more challenging than whatever privilege you've apparently enjoyed, never having needed to actually reckon with that kind of complicated legacy."

Something flickered across the woman's expression—perhaps genuine surprise at Nadia's direct, unflinching response, perhaps grudging recognition of the point she'd just made.

"This conversation is concluded," my father said firmly, before the tension could escalate further. "I trust I've made pack expectations genuinely clear regarding continued harassment. Any further incidents will result in formal consequence."

The woman left without further protest, though her expression carried continued, simmering resentment as she passed Nadia on her way out.

Once the door closed, my father let out a long, tired breath, and I watched him rub his temples, exhaustion evident from the entire difficult morning of confrontations.

"That went about as well as I anticipated," he said, something wry entering his tired voice.

Nadia set her reports carefully on his desk. "I apologize for interrupting."

"You didn't interrupt anything," my father said gently. "If anything, your presence probably helped underscore exactly the point I was attempting to establish."

I finally spoke up, watching Nadia carefully. "Are you okay? Hearing all that?"

"I've heard worse," she said, though something in her tired expression suggested the confrontation had genuinely affected her regardless of her composed exterior. "Though I appreciate your father actually addressing this directly, rather than simply allowing it to continue unaddressed."
