Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 235

Ethan pov

I carried Nadia through the hallways myself, understanding the additional guest quarters my father had initially suggested still felt insufficient given everything that had just occurred. My room offered considerably more protection—closer to the main security detail, closer to my own immediate vigilance.

She'd finally drifted into exhausted sleep, her breathing still carrying faint traces of the smoke she'd inhaled, and I settled her carefully into my bed before stepping back, my hands curling into fists as the full weight of everything that had happened finally crashed through me completely.

*She could have died.*

The thought kept repeating, sharper each time, understanding exactly how close that jammed door and rapidly spreading fire had actually come to costing me the one connection my entire existence had apparently been building toward without my even realizing it.

My wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin, fury and protective terror both churning together in ways I'd never previously experienced, and I found myself gripping the doorframe hard enough that the wood actually creaked beneath the pressure.

*This was deliberate.*

Someone had specifically planned this—the accelerant, the timing, the calculated obstruction of her only reasonable exit. This wasn't spontaneous rage or impulsive violence. Someone had genuinely, methodically planned to murder her.

I stepped out into the hallway, needing space to actually process the fury building sharp and violent through my system, and found my father already there, his phone pressed against his ear, his voice carrying low, dangerous authority as he issued rapid orders.

"I want every single person who had access to that section of the compound accounted for," he was saying, his tone carrying none of the gentle patience he'd offered throughout most of my childhood, replaced entirely by the kind of hard, absolute command I remembered from before his own transformation, though now channeled entirely toward genuine justice rather than the controlling authority he'd once wielded so carelessly. "I don't care what time it is, wake them up if necessary. Someone attempted murder within our own territory tonight, and I want answers before dawn."

He ended the call, turning toward me, his expression carrying matching fury beneath his obvious exhaustion.
