Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 245

Ethan pov

I made my way back to my bedroom that evening, exhausted from the entire day's coordination and planning, and found Nadia already awake, sitting up against the headboard with her knees drawn to her chest, her expression carrying obvious, restless tension.

"You couldn't sleep either," I said, settling onto the edge of the bed beside her.

"I keep thinking about that rabbit," she admitted quietly. "The precision of it. Whoever did that genuinely enjoyed the process, understood exactly the psychological impact they wanted to achieve."

I hadn't yet told her about the additional development from earlier that afternoon—Callum's team finding fresh tracks near the eastern border, along with another disturbing message carved into a tree trunk, this one considerably more explicit in its threat.

"There's something else," I said carefully, watching her expression sharpen immediately with alert attention. "Callum's trackers found additional evidence this afternoon. A message, carved directly into a tree near where we believe they've been hiding."

"What did it say," she asked, her voice steady despite the obvious tension building in her posture.

I hesitated, understanding the genuine difficulty of actually sharing this particular detail, before deciding she deserved complete honesty regardless of how disturbing the content proved.

"They used blood," I said quietly. "To write it. The message read: 'She'll bleed like her mother should have.'"

Nadia went completely still, something raw and genuinely wounded crossing her expression at that specific, deliberate cruelty.

"They're weaponizing everything about my history," she said finally, her voice carrying quiet, controlled fury beneath obvious hurt. "My mother's instability, her documented violence. They're apparently determined to use every possible angle to actually terrorize me."

"I'm genuinely sorry," I said, watching her process this fresh, devastating information. "I debated whether to actually share the specific wording, but I understood withholding it would represent its own kind of betrayal."

"No," she said, shaking her head slightly. "You made the right choice, telling me directly. I need to understand exactly what we're actually facing, rather than being protected from difficult truth."

I nodded, appreciating her continued, fierce insistence on genuine transparency despite the obvious distress this particular development had caused.

"This confirms they're genuinely still nearby," I continued. "Callum's expanding the search perimeter immediately, understanding we might actually have better opportunity to locate them given this recent activity."

"Good," Nadia said, though her voice carried tight, controlled anger rather than genuine relief. "I want them found, Ethan. Genuinely, completely accountable for everything they've attempted."
