Ethan pov
My father had called late the previous night, his voice carrying genuine, cautious excitement that immediately pulled me from whatever restless sleep I'd been attempting. "We have a lead," he'd said simply. "Come to my office first thing tomorrow. Bring Nadia."
I'd barely slept afterward, mind cycling through every possible implication of that development, and now, walking Nadia through the compound toward his study, I felt genuine anticipation building alongside continued protective wariness.
"Do you think they've actually located them," Nadia asked, her voice carrying matching tension as we made our way through the quiet, early morning corridors.
"I hope so," I said honestly. "Dad wouldn't have called with that kind of urgency without genuine, substantial information."
My phone buzzed against my pocket, and I felt immediate, sharp alarm building even before I actually checked the screen, some instinct already warning me this wouldn't prove routine communication.
*I see you.*
I stopped walking, cold dread flooding through my system as I stared at the message.
"What is it," Nadia asked immediately, alarm evident in her voice at my sudden stillness.
I showed her the phone, watching her own expression tighten with matching fear, and my own hands trembled slightly as a second message arrived while we both stood there, watching.
*Your mate is pretty. Too bad you'll lose her soon.*
I felt fury and genuine terror crash through me simultaneously, my eyes immediately scanning our surroundings, understanding with sickening clarity that whoever sent this message meant precisely what they'd claimed—they could actually see us, right now, somewhere within visual range.
"They're genuinely watching us," Nadia said, her voice tight with controlled alarm, her own eyes sweeping across the nearby buildings and tree line with careful, methodical attention.
"Get inside," I said sharply, my protective instincts overriding everything else, already positioning myself between her and the most likely vantage points surrounding our current position.
We moved quickly toward the nearest building entrance, and I pulled out my phone immediately, calling Callum with urgent, sharp demands.
"They're watching us right now," I said the moment he answered. "Somewhere near the main compound entrance, close enough to actually observe us directly."
