CHAPTER 93-1
Clara’s POV
I tried to wave him off, forcing my voice to sound casual. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
But Darius wasn’t having it. He stepped even closer, his eyes blazing with anger.
“Don’t lie to me, Clara,” he growled. “I can smell him on you.”
My heart started racing. Could he really smell Killian’s scent on me? It had been hours since last night, and I had showered this morning.
“You’re being ridiculous,” I said, trying to stand up from the chair.
Darius moved faster than I expected, placing his hands on the armrests of my chair and trapping me in place. His face was inches from mine now, his blue eyes burning with fury.
“Ridiculous?” he repeated, his voice low and dangerous. “Some bastard sneaks into my packhouse in the middle of the night to visit my woman, and I’m being ridiculous for caring about it?”
“I’m not your woman,” I shot back, my own anger flaring to life.
“Aren’t you?” Darius asked, leaning even closer. “Because last I checked, you were in my bed screaming my name.”
My face burned with embarrassment and anger. “That doesn’t make me your property.”
“Doesn’t it?” he challenged. “You live under my protection, in my territory, eating my food and sleeping in my bed. What exactly do you call that?”
“I call it survival,” I snapped. “Not ownership.”
Darius’s jaw tightened. “Someone could get close to you, Clara. Someone could take you away from me.
And I won’t let that happen.”
The possessive tone in his voice made my anger burn hotter. “You won’t let it happen? Who the hell do you think you are?”
“I’m the Alpha who saved your life,” Darius replied, his voice turning cold. “I’m the man who gave you everything when you had nothing.”
“And now you think that gives you the right to control me?”
“It gives me the right to protect what’s mine.”
There it was again. That word. Mine.
I felt something snap inside me.
“I am not yours,” I said through gritted teeth. “I belong to myself.”

Darius’s eyes flashed with something dangerous. “You belong to me, Clara. Your body knows it, even if your mind wants to fight it. And let’s not forget that you had once agreed to it.”
He was so close now that I could feel his breath on my face. The heat radiating from his body, the intensity in his eyes, the way he was looking at me like he wanted to devour me.
My body started responding to his proximity despite my anger. I could feel my pulse quickening, my skin heating up.
And I hated myself for it.
Without thinking, I pulled my hand back and slapped him hard across the face.
The sound echoed through his office like a gunshot.
Darius’s head snapped to the side from the force of the blow. A red mark immediately appeared on his cheek where my palm had connected.
For a moment, we both froze. I stared at the mark I had left
d left on his face, shocked by my own actions.
Darius slowly turned his head back to look at me, his eyes now blazing with a mixture of anger and something else I couldn’t identify.
“I’m disappointed in you,” I said, my voice shaking with emotion. “I thought you were different.”
I pushed past him and headed for the door.
“Clara, wait,” Darius called after me.
